And her own arrogance was her downfall. A considerable time avoiding countless threats in countless worlds. But she would not, would not lower herself to listening to a mutant. Damn, that was some powerful willful ignorance there.

In the last panel, behind her and barely visible, is a shadow, or more a shadow of a shadow.

Was that mysterious animated construct made up of toothbrushes that fell apart, and Dr. Amesworth just picked one of them up? Maybe now she’s finally getting a clue. The shadow behind her may be another group of toothbrushes that has reformed into another construct. (“Construct” for lack of a better term; “monster” doesn’t seem to apply. Yet?)

I love Aaron’s artwork — look at the ring around each of Dr. Amesworth’s eyepieces. Soft white light providing illumination for her suit’s visual display? The suit is a powered, complex system and that’s another indication of how sophisticated it is technology-wise.

Soylent Green is…. TOOTHBRUSHES!!!!

I apologize ahead of this…but…it almost appears as though the sighting has scared the "toothbrush(s) " out of Wally!!

…looks like she is about to have a brush with death…

do topsiders ever take off the suits? to eat, poop, mate? if not, how? and if not, imagine how bad her breath is when that helmet does come off!

Interesting… The stairwell now reverts to the same form we saw when they were coming up. Above them it is circular. And there is a door to divide the two spaces. Which someone needs to shut because that shadow ain’t The Shadow!

The Tooth is Out There.

ok, I am starting to get creeped out.

That is one motivated toothbrush sales…thing. Free samples if you want them, or even if you don’t.

You used to fit fifty or a hundred into a carpetbag, run the Union blockade, and sell them in the Confederacy for a couple dollars gold each. Maybe these are leftovers.

We see toothbrushes. I wonder what she sees?

A creature! A creature beyond the horrors of imagination! WITH REALLY SPARKLY TEETH!!!

Can’t wait to find out what’s up with the toothbrushes.

Now, she’ll be all “Look what I’ve discovered!”

Wait, which way is she looking?? Because panel 3 seems to show the doorjamb (which Wally just crashed through) and the toothbrushes leading back through it, supposedly toward the “thing”, but then panel 4 shows the shadow thing behind her. Meaning it’s already inside…

I have the feeling that this is one clue she shouldn’t give “the brush off” to. ;)

In the fourth panel, if you look carefully at the background between the toothbrush in her hand and her glowing right eye, you’ll see the shadowy figure that Wally has been running away from. … it’s right behind her!

Oh my god, this is hilarious. I get what this arc is worth but I find it really amusing that the monster has been leaving a trail of toothbrushes.

I prefer electric toothbrushes.

Belaboring the obvious: Clearly, these toothbrushes are the biggest clue yet! Wally’s leaving a trail of them?

Or did he turn into one of them?

Usain could learn a thing or two from the way Wally bolted.

As InquireWithin (LOL! great name for this cycle) said, the creature is now behind her. Slippery devil…

Now suppose that this is not some killing monster but some poor lost soul from another universe that instead of bread crumbs leaves a trail of toothbrushes. That would certainly be a unique set of markers for a trail. In an apparently empty world, there would be no one to disturb the markers,

The toothbrushes could have been there already. Remember that Alan and Duffy found some on the floor where the gateway is. So maybe these were already on the floor, but Amesworth could not be bothered to notice. Of course, Wally should have noticed them on his way up if that were the case. But he had dismissed their presence earlier.

He definitely did not dismiss the shadow creature. And it was right on Wally’s tail and probably not making a sound. It may have ignored Amesworth because she had no dittos. It’s abilities would certainly scare the bejeesus out of most people.

Remember that Amesworth implied she needed the help of the mutants. From prior evidence, it could have to do with going through some of the gateways. Perhaps the shadow creature also needs help from them, and is pursuing Wally for that reason.

Heck of an interesting place, and thing!

Wowwie this is all soo clear now, NOT. Thanks to a reader who is a graphic artist, ERWIN SCHWARTZ who has done a histogram correction, we now know there is a SHADOW! KYNERIS believes the ass kissing approach will yield some clarity(haha!) Some anecdotal memories from long time readers assure us of other little known info. Many throw out “clues” they perceive. DIVERLEO can’t wait to find out what the toothbrushes are. WELL, good luck with that! !
