Right with you Arlo, two minutes tops. Maybe some extra time on the hair after I’m suited up for the day.

Interesting order in how she gets dressed… Just an observation. Does arlo enjoy the idea of her going “Commando”?

Outside of putting on the over=the=shoulder=boulder=holder, why does it take females so much longer to dress?

In their minds, that is how men think that’s all there is to getting dressed.

So Arlo goes Commando. I’m to much of a freeze-baby to do that here in the frozen north at this time of year. Now get me on the Gulf coast or down in the Key’s and it’s a different story.

Husband gets out of bed before me. We both have to take meds and make a bathroom stop. I will put on my underwear, socks, jeans, tee shirt – in cold weather sweatshirt, go downstairs and put on my shoes, go out to the mail box and come back in with mail (and relock front door), load my jeans pockets with the stuff I need to bring with me – wallet, cell phone, pill box, pen, spare tooth adhesive spray bottle of alcohol, and small bottle of hand sanitizer, put on my watch and wedding ring and winter coat – and sit at the kitchen table for 10 minutes before he comes downstairs.

I get dressed, etc in less than 15 minutes in modern clothing – 18th century clothing takes half an hour and help from husband with my apron string – and he needs help with bow for the back of his hair – and I am still downstairs with whatever need that has to be packed at the last minute, packed and sitting and waiting for him. (And if I made myself a longer apron string so I could tie it in the front of me, I could tie it myself – but he would still need help with the bow at the back of hair.

So – how quickly one dresses depends on the person getting dressed.

Husband gets up and out of bed just before me. I get up, get dressed, check my blood sugar, pick up the stuff from my desk to go out with out (like items to mail or return to stores), go downstairs & put on my shoes, go out the front door & get the mail from our box, come back in sort the mail to go upstairs goes in a hanging basket on the stair rail, to go to recycling comes to the kitchen with me, put what I need for the day – wallet, pen, pill box, hand sanitizer bottle, spray bottle of alcohol, small tube tooth adhesive (oh, put my teeth in before coming down also), & keys in my pockets, put on my coat when needed, if sunny out change to my eyeglasses that change to sunglass outside – all in 15 minutes – and then sit there and wait for husband to finish getting ready and come downstairs – he explains that it takes him longer because he has to shave – I on the other hand have to pull chin and lip hears individually with tweezers.

It is men who take too long to get ready as far as I can see – he is never waiting for me. Even when we are going to a reenactment, I get into my layers of clothing – including lacing up stays in about 20 minutes, 30 at most. I will then go downstairs and get my same pocket stuff (yes, 18th century women’s clothing have amazingly large pockets) and get together what we need to bring with us and sit and wait for him and then I have to tie the ribbon in his hair for him.
