They do. And the food stinks. They’re trendy because we have “social media” now and they have people dedicated to manipulate it. Go to whatever place with the less reviews, zero if possible. When people enjoy the meal, they don’t use their phones to take pictures or write reviews.
Many years ago my mom and step-dad were in NYC and took my Aunt and Uncle to Windows on The World for lunch. When they got to the Maitre ‘d stand, my step dad asked for a table for 4 near the window. He was politely told that all of the seats were taken. He glanced around and saw that this was not true. $20 later, voila, they were sitting by the window. My Aunt still gets upset when that’s mentioned.
I tried one of those “trendy” restaurants years ago but the trendy gimmick was they turned your vegetables into blendered baby food. I’ve only frequented good steak houses ever since. You can’t go wrong where they serve a baked potato and a salad for sides.
I went to a trendy restaurant once. It was French, expensive, and the portions were so small, than as we left another member of my party asked where the nearest Burger king was.
Definition of a “trendy restaurant:” an establishment serving minuscule portions of inedible substances by a surly staff that automatically adds a gratuity of 20% or more that cannot be decreased regardless of the quality of service rendered.
In most of New York City, you don’t have to go too far to find the little ethnic hole-in-the-wall places on the back streets where they appreciate your business and cook real food. One of my favorite reasons to live here in spite of all the mishigoss.
There was a time when some folks liked to say that you should eat at the truck stops with lots of trucks parked around them, cuz truckers know good food. My brother-in-law was a trucker, and said that wasn’t true. He said, truckers would stop at places where the service was fast and the food was cheap, quality was secondary.
There is ‘having attitude’, which can progress to ‘having an attitude’, which can progress to ‘having an attitude problem’. The spitting man is in the third category.
Doesn’t even have to be a trendy restaurant for something like that to happen. Once, I stopped by an average restaurant, by myself, to get dinner. The hostess refused to allow me a table or a booth, since, alone, I would not be sufficiently profitable. She said I could sit at the bar if I wanted. I said what I thought of her and the restaurant and went down the block to a more hospitable place….
Nobody should spit on anybody ever even in the animal comic world. Your comic is offensive to me. First time I ever read it. I get the pig roast thing.

If Pig were on a meal date with Pigita, he’d suggest going to a Jewish delicatessen

The “Industrial” music in some of these places gets me. It screams “my kid could do that on their iPhone”. Noodling Age music.

Just as well. I can just imagine what the wait staff are like! “Sure, there’s steak on the menu but nobody orders it. Except you, I suppose.”
