This is my boys, to the life. Swap, swap, swap. Bigger, older Diesel is very patient with younger Raven, who is clearly Lupin’s photo-negative here! (Occasionally Diesel will stick his paw into the bowl, under Raven’s nose, and swipe out a clawful of canned food to “take away”.)
…although not with a spoon. LOVE the tiny spoon! And Puck’s frustrated eyebrows as he gives us the headline. And it’s always so adorable to see the boys moving around on all fours.
Yup, we’ve got one of those. Wilbur eats some or all of his food, then leans in toward Sparky in a clear “…You gonna finish that?” fashion. She does not appreciate this at all.
Cat Logic at its finest. I love Lupin’s big green eyes in that penultimate panel. And the boys look like loaves the way they’re hunched over eating. It’s hilarious and adorable!
I’m reeeally hoping the “dinosaur chicken nuggets” make an appearance. That’s one of my favorite strips from the original!
That’s my Tar – while he’s eating from his dish, he has his eye on the others’ dishes. Eventually he nudges one away and eats the their food, then goes back to his own still checking out the other cats food. Kind of funny.
LOL! My first thought upon seeing Elvis and Lupin from the back in the first panel was “Gee, I think my backside looks just as round as that when I’m squatting over!”
It really sounds unappetizing, no? Yeah, it’s a widely repeated observation that certain words seem weird or ridiculous when repeated several times out loud and out of context. But this one has always seemed especially visceral to me.
A little over a week ago I asked if I should get another cat to go with my adult male and if so whether I should get a kitten or an adult. Well my cat has been missing a little over a week now and I’m really missing him. He lost his collar but he was chipped. I saw a picture of what looked like him at the animal shelter but it turned out not be him. Anyway I put in to adopt the cat that looked like mine but was not. That way I’ll have a cat and maybe two if mine comes back (which I am doubting he will at this point). If you are praying people please pray I get my cat back. The cat at the shelter was injured and may have some medical costs down the road (which I’m willing to pay for). Maybe I should adopt two so one doesn’t get territorial later.
Yep, that’s my Roli Poli (named because he likes to roll on his back, not because he’s overweight. He’ll gobble up his food, then push Clayton away and start on his. And Clayton is by far the older and bigger of the two cats. (Of course, considering they’re fed prescription cat food, both wet and day, and they both like it, I consider this a small miracle.)
During warm spells, Mom fed the clowder from a big pan on the back stoop.
Then one day we found all the kitties loafed-up in a respectful circle around a family of raccoons, who were wolfing down their kibble.
That was the end of that! Pan stayed in the kitchen all year. Everybody was able to fit in & I remember no bickering. Mom’s babies got along very well.
We always had sweeties. It helped that our big alphas were consummate gentlemen.
Happy Bunday, everyone! On the subject of food, I was browsing through our pantry and saw one of Yum Yum’s cans of gushy food. With my head still in the pantry, I said “Yum Yum, would you like some of your gushy food?” Now, this is a rare treat for her, she only gets it every month or so. I put my hand on the can, and she was right there, purring about three times louder than usual. So, the obvious conclusions are: a) she understood every word I said and b) she knew which cans in the cupboard hold her food or c) she can read.
Something occurred to me – you all are a resource of VAST wealth of knowledge! So…..
My eldest (only 13!) has inflamed bowel disease (IBD) which is different (says vet) than IRRITABLE bowel etc. Anti-inflammatories are needed in the form of steroids. He can’t tolerate being off of them long enough for the steroid side effects to be completely avoided (after 2 weeks the poor guy was vomiting 8 times or more in an hour, and minimum is a month). The side effects are lower immune response, so he’s almost constantly fighting sinus infections, and antibiotics all the time pose their own problems. Another may eventually (probably will?) be diabetes. I’m currently tweaking his meds to find the absolute lowest dose, for example every OTHER day dosing, to give at least a little break regularly to his system.
So, I was wondering what experience is out there? Does anyone have experience with “raw food” diets? There’s also foods of “novel” proteins (rabbit etc), or of proteins kinda pre-broken down to be easier to digest. My idea is to reduce the problems in his bowels that need meds to begin with, to help me minimize the meds he needs.
Also, his breathing can be heart breaking. I’ve seen him stop playing because he couldn’t breathe (congested kitty). Constant antibiotics can leave him vulnerable to other infections, I’m told, like one that took our Bobo from us FAR too early.
A real “catch-22”. So, if anyone has ANY thoughts, they are appreciated! Please don’t fret hugely, though. For the most part, he’s happy and comfy. I just see his possible future shortened with this, and I’d like it to be more and better years.
Real life cats and dogs create food territorial issues as a dominance thing. Important to make sure that’s watched and that they know that you’re the alpha in charge of even (especially) their food too. World War III will start for lesser issues than pets and food dominance.
This is the scene every day at the cat colony that I help out at. It’s the same food, but it’s “fresher” if it’s just put down. There are several that are not into sharing and there can be heard growls. I had to use the “no no” bottle on one of the kitties to make sure that Suzy (who does not share) ate.
Yesterday sis texted that she couldn’t find Onyx’s favorite toy mouse all morning. Finally she happened to walk into the kitchen & look down, & there was the mouse in Onyx’s bowl along with the remains of breakfast!
Did Onyx invite her favorite toy mouse to share breakfast, or did she put it there to save it so she could eat it later? Guess we’ll never know…
So appropriate to today’s strip – Conan was having his mid-day snack just a bit ago and I suddenly heard Akiro squalling. I went to check and apparently the kitty somehow stuck his tiny little paw underneath the dog’s big old paw while he was trying to check out Conan’s bowl and was finding it difficult to retrieve it. I rescued him and no harm done … but Conan never even glanced up from his dish; I’m not sure he even noticed!
We had a cat (just lost him after Christmas) who had 2 bowls in front of him, and he’d eat a nibble from one bowl, a nibble from the other bowl, a nibble from the first bowl, back to the 2nd bowl for a nibble.
When we lived at our old house we would all feed all the cats. I would fill an 18 lb. drop feeder and whistle and every cat in the neighborhood would come a-running. Then they would all line up on the edge of the porch and wait until my alpha female, Spike, would stroll past the line and eat her fill. Then, when she finished eating they would continue to wait until she finished washing her face and paws and not move until she had walked away from the bowl. Only then would they all crowd around and chow down. Spike was mother or grandmother to most of them and if any didn’t show her the respect she demanded, she would shred their ears.

As I’ve said before, I’m certain that this strip is in no way based on real life and is purely the product of Georgia’s imagination.

I love the way Elvis tries to protect his bowl by wrapping paws and tail around it, yet somehow Lupin leaps in. (Did you see what I did there?)

I love that Lupin’s usual clear thinking is overwhelmed by his food-aquisitive monomania.

Imagine you’ve never heard the word “food.”
You ask someone what’s for dinner, and they say:
FOOD

Elvis seems remarkably tolerant. Perhaps he knows he’ll be able to sneak more from his original dish while Lupin is arguing with Puck.

One of my neighbors has a trio of cats that does this too. It can be very amusing to see them jockeying for exactly the same food.
