“I was spawned in a ditch by a mother who left me there, naked and cold and too hungry to cry/I never blamed her though, why should I blame her/she thought I’d have the good sense to die…”
Being of the elderly persuasion myself, I totally understand Earl’s viewpoint. A few years ago I was in an accident, and confined to a wheelchair for a time. A good friend took me shopping for my modest needs and just to get me out of the house from time to time until I recovered. In one large store, we were looking at a few items. A salesperson stepped up and asked if she could help him. He said no, thank you, we were just looking. She then asked him, “Does he (indicating me) wish to see anything?” He looked at her, and very calmly said, “He has a broken tibia, but he’s neither invisible nor deaf. Why don’t you ask him?”
While flying home from a convention where he had spoke and mentioned it was his eightieth birthday, Cavett Robert sat beside a man who had heard him speak. The man said he didn’t know if he would want to be eighty. Cavett said, “Son, that is because you aren’t 79”.
Many of those who oppose seeking cures for old age base their opposition on the same concept.. that people wouldn’t die quickly enough based on other causes.
Earl, you are living in a fantasy world. In truth, as of March 2018, active human euthanasia is legal in the Netherlands, Belgium, Colombia, Luxembourg, and Canada. Assisted suicide is legal in Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, and in the US states of Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Hawaii, Vermont, Montana, Washington DC, and California. A law legalizing euthanasia in the Australian state of Victoria will come into effect in mid-2019.
