don’t need books for the great escape nowadays. Watching MSM news is enough.

And so went the literalist reader of Jules Verne’s “A Journey to the Centre of the Earth.”

From the comments, it appears many think a person dug their way out of the book store. No, they came from someplace else, and used the book store to escape. See, they left the shovel. Didn’t need it anymore.

May be a variation on the Burgess Meredith bank vault from the Twilight Zone episode. Hope he’s got TWO pairs of glasses.

I know it’s only a sight gag, but it does suggest someone doesn’t like books or reading. Me? I’d spend all day in a place like that.

Was that the entrance to Tom, Dick or Harry? Hopefully not Dick. They found Dick. Or was it Tom?

Recently we had a long time book store close in our neighborhood. A quirky place with nooks and crannies for reading, a permanent chess set, and the obligatory cat wandering about or sleeping on a shelf. Amazon may be less expensive, but it is NOT the same; they have no soul.

My father liked nothing better than finding an obscure old book store with a lot of old stock and nooks and crannies to explore. He started taking me with him at a very young age and I caught the passion too! That kind of store is getting harder and harder to find.

There is still an independent book shop open near me. They deal in both new and used books. Being of the elderly persuasion, I don’t get there as often as I used to, and my store credit is astronomically high. Being elderly, I often forget to take it with me and pay for my purchases. Silly old me. Fondness and nostalgia are all well and good, but cold hard cash going into the registers probably count for a lot more.

It’s not a Tunnel, they just hired a new Advertising Consultant who thought the Hole would fit the store’s Theme and draw in extra customers.
