Apparently, rumor is, a movie about Neil Armstrong that nobody has actually seen yet shows the flag on the moon but doesn’t show the exact moment it was planted. Thus the entire movie is a … well, I was gonna say “a Communist Plot to undermine our great country” but the people whining about it are the same gang that has climbed into bed with Putin …

I just got into an on-line discussion with some fool who insists the sky is blue because there is water above us, and the stars and planets twinkle because we are looking at them through the water. They are not far away, but fairly close – about 2,000 miles, maybe – and obviously the moon landings are fake. S/he seems to be perfectly serious.

OK, I’m confused. Exactly what is it that’s being “revised”?

I saw the post from Michael Peterson above and his explanation that it’s a “movie about Neil Armstrong that nobody has actually seen yet shows the flag on the moon but doesn’t show the exact moment it was planted”. That still doesn’t explain what the “revision” is.

If the film-makers left out the scene about actually putting the flag on the moon, they probably had good reasons that had nothing at all to do with politics.

Remember, if you will, that the idiots who claim the lunar landings were faked have seized upon what they claim was motion of the flag as it was planted. They claimed that what they saw was because the scene was done on a sound stage. Well, imagine the confirmation bias going into full effect when they see the scene in a movie. And because it has been pretty well established that the motion of the flag was because of the way the flag was set up on the moon where there is no air to make it wave, imagine the difficulty of replicating that motion on a sound stage.

For the movie makers, it would be damned if you do get it right, damned if you don’t get it right. I’d just pass on showing that moment, as well.

As for anyone making it political, that’s just dumb. There are US flags at the South Pole station. They are not there to indicate ownership of Antarctica, but the presence of a base supported by the US government. Go to a base supported by more than one country, and you’ll see multiple flags. Citizens paying for these things like to see these symbols, whether they are American, British, Russian, French, Indian, or Chinese.

If this country and its media is so bias toward the left how come the Right Wing Nuts are running and ruining everything? These people are so dimwitted they don’t even know what they are saying.

OK guys, I still don’t know what the so called “revision” is. Is he saying we left the flag there? Is he saying we didn’t? Is he saying somebody else left it? Is he talking about the reason it was left there? WHAT is the revision?

Is Bob Gorrell saying that the moon landing was not a government technological and scientific success, but rather a liberal hollywood movie? If so, he has lost all his credibility (again, but we still keep saying that).

It is a sign of the ignorance of several generations in America to accept the notion that the Apollo program was anything other than a blatantly nationalist effort to prove the power and innovation of our nation on the world stage.President John F. Kennedy Delivered in person before a joint session of Congress May 25, 1961 (excerpts)

Finally, if we are to win the battle that is now going on around the world between freedom and tyranny, the dramatic achievements in space which occurred in recent weeks should have made clear to us all, as did the Sputnik in 1957, the impact of this adventure on the minds of men everywhere, who are attempting to make a determination of which road they should take……Now it is time to take longer strides—time for a great new American enterprise—time for this nation to take a clearly leading role in space achievement, which in many ways may hold the key to our future on earth.

Recognizing the head start obtained by the Soviets with their large rocket engines, which gives them many months of lead-time, and recognizing the likelihood that they will exploit this lead for some time to come in still more impressive successes, we nevertheless are required to make new efforts on our own…….

First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the Earth…….But in a very real sense, it will not be one man going to the moon—if we make this judgment affirmatively, it will be an entire nation. For all of us must work to put him there.

Now this is a choice which this country must make, and I am confident that under the leadership of the Space Committees of the Congress, and the Appropriating Committees, that you will consider the matter carefully.

It is a most important decision that we make as a nation. But all of you have lived through the last four years and have seen the significance of space and the adventures in space, and no one can predict with certainty what the ultimate meaning will be of mastery of space.

I believe we should go to the moon. But I think every citizen of this country as well as the Members of the Congress should consider the matter carefully in making their judgment, to which we have given attention over many weeks and months, because it is a heavy burden, and there is no sense in agreeing or desiring that the United States take an affirmative position in outer space, unless we are prepared to do the work and bear the burdens to make it successful. If we are not, we should decide today and this year.

The full text of the “space” portion of his address can be found at https://www.space.com/11772-president-kennedy-historic-speech-moon-space.html

Make no mistake. The Apollo program was ALL ABOUT America. American exceptionalism. American dominance of space. It was about the Cold War and national survival. It was about the military applications of US innovations in space.

Anyone who claims otherwise is either a liar or ignorant.

Columbus planted a flag and claimed the New World for Spain. Nearly 500 years later, someone from the New World planted a flag on the moon. By right, the moon belongs to Spain!

@The Wolf In Your Midst Actually, there are many tens of millions of us who remember that moment as if it were yesterday.

The landing itself was broadcast live. What an enormous publicity risk. Loss of signal (a crash) would have been a catastrophic blow to the nation. I just watched that sequence again.

“Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.” It sends a shiver through my body today just as it did on that day. I watched it in our school auditorium with the entire student body, teachers and staff. On a small (by today’s standard) TV on a rolling cart on the stage.

The sound in the room was overwhelming. Cheering, clapping, yelling. Adults weeping in joy and relief. We were all space mad. Our entire lives had been infused with the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs. It was a great day for America. It was the greatest achievement in all of human history, and WE, Americans, had done it.

That night the entire nation along with most of the world huddled around TV screens. We watched Armstrong descend the ladder. We watched and listened as he described the surface. And we listened to that famous statement as he stood on the moon. The first human to set foot on a body that was not earth.

Yes, he said “mankind”, not “America”. But we knew, the entire world knew, and the Soviets KNEW that an American had taken that small step and that America had made it possible for that giant leap.

Make no mistake. The moon program was an American effort. Nothing can change that. Not even a handful of politically correct clowns bent on devaluing the American will and drive and spirit that made it all happen.

Ok I am confused. Is Gorell claiming that Hollywood, the people that brought us movies like Apollo 13 is reluctant to show the American flag on the moon? That is a convoluted accusation in writing. In a cartoon it is even dumber.
