There are pawprints on pre-printing press books that indicate cats have enjoyed good books for even longer.

It is my firm belief that there is a magnetic quality to printed paper- some otherworldly attraction that will inexorably capture a feline and hold them. It’s beyond their ability to resist. Megan could be on the top self of the bookcase in the back bedroom, but if I open the newspaper on the kitchen table sh’s there before the second page has been turned.

What? Last Sunday they left with all signs pointing to the arrival of the new baby. Now the man is back home reading books. Was it false labor? I know the Sunday strips don’t always match up with the weekly strips, but I’m confused.

I have never had a cat curl up in an open book. Now curl up on a closed book is a different matter altogether.

Let me now convey my deepest thanks to you all for all the good thoughts, well wishes, boops, bunts and general positivity. The surgery went well, I’m about a tenth of a gram lighter (I’m not sure on that one, I didn’t ask the surgeon how much the lasering would remove) and, like all good boys and girls who go to the doctor, there was ic cream! Tre-C met me at the door and asked what took so long. I said; “I told you, baby, I had to go to the hospital to get fixed.” She tilted her head to one side and said; “Aren’t you too old to need to be fixed?”

Cat logic at its finest! And OMC, Pucky’s happy face. He is SO cute. <3

At least, in a way, the boys share my love of books. :D

Update: I showed this to my friend, and in turn she showed me this: https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/03/130326-animals-medieval-manuscript-books-cats-history/

As she put it, “Proof that cats have been cats for centuries.”

I may be in the minority here, but I always kick my cat off my book. She might be cute, but she can be cute somewhere else!

Ah the universal question of cat slaves – how many scritches does the cat want right now. Judge carefully.

I love Elvis’s classic wrap around tail with nose on toes pose! Puck makes an adorable little meat loaf! And best of all, Lupin’s fangs and toe beans. I wonder which books have caught their attention? I’m currently reading one of Miranda James’s “Cat in the Stacks” books featuring the lovable Maine coon cat, Diesel.

When I had cats, they’d sometimes lie on my school homework and on the newspaper. But when the gas heater was on, that took precedence.

All Lupin needs now as he lies on his sweet spot are his kitty shades and his speedo.

Yum Yum likes to sleep on the newspaper section Paul is reading. She will approach him daintily from the left, and walk on it until it turned into a nest and then settle down for a snooze.

An excellent investigative report by our BNC Journalistic team. It is better than the NY Times Sunday Book Review, who are only interested in plot and the author. My cats and I want to know about the book’s heat retention abilities and cuddle size…purr, purr, purr!

Books don’t just retain the sun’s heat. The more that a human wants to read them, the more comfortable they become for cats. They share this property with open magazines, chessboards, and other objects that humans might want to stare at for long periods of time.

Years ago I had a cat with a five scritch limit. After five scritches, petting her became a blood sport. (I learned quick)

Excess scritches equal bites. Impossible to establish a consistent standard. Cats are not about standards rather whims

I’ve never experienced this phenomenon with books. With newspapers, yes. Experience has taught me that you don’t remove a kitty from his/her newspaper bed.

My owners never bothered books or newspapers much. But woe unto me if I ever decided to sew something & the Maine Coon Mix Monster was around…patterns were his favorite toy! Not ordinary tissue paper, mind you – just patterns. Go figure… =^..^=

On the rare occasion I get a newspaper the cats have figured out how to block the paper while I read it. Sit on the pile I haven’t read yet. Cover the pile I have read and generally make pestes of themselves whilst I’m trying to read the paper. The moment I’m done however, all the cats disappear like they never existed.

Figaro was my champion book and newspaper sitter. Curling up with a book was an invitation for a cat cuddle in his opinion – the fact I was no longer able to read said book was beside the point. Also used to do the year end crossword in the Globe & Mail paper – 2 page spread – on the table … with a 15 lb tuxedo sprawled across it :) Still miss my pookie

The way I heard it, the appeal of books and newspapers is that paper is an insulator, not a conductor, of heat. It reflects the cat’s body warmth as well as the heat of the sun if it’s in a sunbeam.

Not “. . . just by laying down,” but “. . . just by lying down.” Is it a burden to be simultaneously humorous and grammatical?
