This is starting to get nowhere.

Luann forgot the first rule of finding yourself in a hole.

At least Dez knows Luann didn’t mean anything toward her and shifted away from it quickly.

The tea has resumed steaming again.

No, what’s frightening is the change in Tiff. Heavy, not heavy isn’t the question, but why the change?

Thin people are very judgmental and discriminate against heavier people, even by just a few pounds and take pleasure in shaming them. A lot of times, weight is attributed to genes. There are some heavy people who are healthy, nice looking, active and emotionally healthy, even light on their foot – I’ve seen it. Thin people can be ugly – thin does not equal to pretty. Heavy people are sometimes prettier than thin people. Just stop all this shaming. It is ugly. Celebrate diversity and embrace individuality and differences. Humans do not have to be singularly mindset – makes life boring.

Is there a crowbar nearby to remove Luann’s foot from her mouth?

I think Luann is being used as way to address fat shaming, and fat perceptions, and as a nice way to criticize it, shame it itself, and have Dez, a person who does not have a slim frame, but is quite sexy, point out that first, health is the main issue, and second that “big” is beautiful. That is one point. The other in terms of Tiffany, is made clear by Bernie, and is obvious to Dez, which is that Tiffany’s real problem is not being fat suddenly, but psychological. She has a serious emotional, mental, depressive issue. In a way Luann, the comic, and the character, is showing how people can get so focused on weight and image prejudice, they don’t understand or focus on the real issue, which is the person who is fat. Luann is channeling you, all you focused only on fat, and stupid fat shaming jokes. And Tiffany is such a good subject, was “hot” but as fat now is not. Why is she that way, CAN’T PEOPLE HAVE THE SENSITIVITY TO SEE THAT? Bernie can, and she is a toon character. Jeez people.

Tiffany’s has made it clear She doesn’t was to interact. Especially with two gals that were once Her “mortal Enemies.”

But She’s back on Campus and will HAVE to interact with classmates and teachers. And those that KNOW Her are sure as Heck ask what happened.

And even though this may Greatly Upset the Never Gunther’s, around here, sooner or Tiffany will have to encounter Gunther, Like it or Not. No Doubt when He finds out, He’ll offer to Help. Whether She “Accepts” that help right away, is problematical. He’d be far MORE of a help than these ladies.

Looks Like Luann caught herself – rather got caught w/ ’FOOT IN MOUTH DISEASE. Imagine what would happen if under that Sweat suit Tiff was wearing an Inflatable Sumo-wrestler outfit to get responses from people for a paper to prove she is NOT a Dumb Blonde Bimbo. But I suppose that would be reaching.

But something’s not healthy with Tiff? How does Dez know this? Because she turned down her special tea.

Why Gunther, many have asked. Gunther has seen her like most haven’t – without her makeup and dressed in just a robe. She said she felt comfortable with him, even to the point of messing up her own hair in his presence. He may be the only one she will feel comfortable around in her current state…

I love Luann saying, “Please tell me to shut up.” If you can get a chuckle out of somebody you’ve offended – you got a break.

Bernice pointing to her head is funny. I can’t remember if Bern ever indicated she was aware of any internal issues that she has.

Pulling the fire alarm may be the best non Gunther option.

Any comments from BOTH sides?

For anyone who has changed drastically over a short period of time, the question is their health… mental and physical. These are the first things to be addressed.

Yesterday (Sunday 9/24) I posted some very careful thoughts about why Gunther is likely bad for Tiff, and cited numerous instances from the strip.

I probably should have saved it for today, but I wasn’t sure we’d still be on the same arc. Some might not have seen it since it was Sunday. But I’m reposting it here as a self-reply, so it’s easy to skip over. It’s there if anyone is interested.

I think Tiff did date Les and this was the result.

I think many who comment as if this comic strip is real life should get a life.

3. Dez’s rear seems to stick out a bit more today than it did last time we saw her drawn in full profile.

If thin people are pretty it is because of their heavy parts. My friends Mom “I don’t know why you go on like that, Raquel Welch is fat.” My Friend “Fat where it counts, ma.”(circa late 60’s)

She probably gained weight for some role in a play or movie. There will be a surprising turn of events by the end of the week revealing that they all got worried over nothing and everything is back to status quo soon enough. Voila.

I was thinking about Sukie Crandall’s understandable lament that one sees “Plus sizes” for heavier than average women, but not for men. I recall that Marilyn Monroe was a size 14. Maybe stores should use voluptuous or curvy as a category description.

To risk the inference – the ‘weight issue’ has certainly been a big button pushed. Last week’s Mon-Sat comments totaled 3,054 – 400-plus per day at least. I’m sure most here have struggled some with weight in their respective way, self included. Could be one of the busiest weeks this board has been, but the issue is worth discussing.

From the way she has been drawn, Tiffany really isn’t “fat”. She has put on some weight and looks different – let go and blousy. Those gals (except Bernice) are looking at Tiffany’s exterior instead of checking up on what is happening inside.

BRAVO for Dez making what is so far the most important comment in the arc!

And for the few men who still keep arguing that Gunther treated Tiffany badly, would you PLEASE read the comments from the multiple women who have pointed out that a man telling a women that she is fine just being herself instead of hiding under layers of cosmetics is a KINDNESS, not an insult.

Yes, Gunther has grow up to do, too. Yes, in the past he looked down on Tiffany intellectually as a possible romance partner, but did have to good sense to not do so to her face.

These two have been good supportive friends to each other and have been able to tell each other things that are hard to learn, but important as when Tiffany taught Gunther that dating Mr Grey has been good for his mom.

Tiffany was upset during their talk because SHE IS LONELY and frustrated by not knowing how to tackle that. She said so plainly. Did you know that after sadness, the other most common emotional reason for a woman to cry is frustration?

It is beginning to sound more and more like an allergic reaction to something.

You know, people have some control over body shape and size but often have much less control than people who are genetically in the middle tend to sometimes think. That is true both about people who are thinner than the mode and ones who are heavier than the mode.

What people DO have more control over are their attitudes toward others and how they treat others. Yes, i know we were all raised immersed in biases which we need to recognize and fight against each day (a worthwhile choice). But, still, those attitudes and behaviors are more under our control than many of the myriad causes for low or high weights.

Forget weight or shape or other differences. True ugliness is failure to recognize and try to reduce those biases in oneself, especially when people wind seduced by hatred, lies, and excuses.

I am glad that Luann was written today as not recognizing that pitfall and beginning to fall into it before she came to her senses. I am even more glad that Dez was written as being forgiving and gently educating her.

BTW, Bernice annoyed me today with her crack. How coukd she ever be a counselor in the future with such an attitude?

…and Bernice is going to be a therapist? I think not…

Tiffany’s so fat, the only way to get her in the hall is to grease the doorframe and wave a jelly donut on the other side.

She’s so fat, when she goes to a wedding she sits on BOTH sides of the aisle.

Tiffany doesn’t need to be face to face with someone in order to talk. Some neutral person, maybe even Mrs. Berger, needs to call her on her cell. Mrs. Berger is a motherly type and right now Tiffany needs a mother’s shoulder to cry on, something she has never had.

Well, I’ve been off this grid for a coupla years or so and just got back on, but it all looks like I haven’t missed a day—except that Tiffi’s put on some weight. that’s OK—I’ve seen clothing commercials that these days feature heavier—and quite stunning—women. This is STILL the comic, in my arsenal at least, that wins by a long shot in the number of—and most detailed psychoanalytically—comments. But nice to be cack, space hoppers !!

What’s a Dez to do?

Ok, People People, If your born thick that is OK, BUT,(hahahahahahahhahhahaH butt) if your fat cause you chose to eat at mc Donald’s for breakfast lunch and dinner and every day it’s your fault! I can’t relate cause I’m unhealthily thin.

I am surprised to see that no one spoke up about the obvious person to talk to Tiffany about the situation. Crystal. She is her best friend. That type of weight gain in such a short period of time is not natural. Something is going on. Whether that was a result of a health issue or some emotional upset, those three are a piss poor choice to ask her about something that is none of there business. Gunther is a good second choice but Crystal is the obvious person.

Maybe they got really close, and that’s why she’s heavy.
