    So, Ladies? Are You READY for a Brand New College Semester full of Hope and Promise? Are You Eager to Work Very Hard in Your Studies and Anxious to Learn New and Exciting Things? Do You All Pledge to put ANY Hope of a ‘Social Life’ on Hold in order to NOT be Distracted from Your Lofty Educational Goals?

    Of Course NOT.

    Lu, I just saw Pretty Boy in Campus Parking Lot and Bern? Old Star Head is passed out in front of the Student Union Building. So scoot.

    And Dez? Nevermind……,

    Is it possible to be married to the idea of attending a divorce counselling group?-Or for a construction company to demolish their old building?-Or to be confident that you have a problem with shyness, or that you are sure that you’re indecisive?-Or to protest the right for people to picket?-Or for a cat lover to be dog tired?

    The Silent Scream was a pro-life film in the 1970s showing in ultrasound a pre-born child’s tragic reaction against an abortionist’s scalpel /forceps. In one scene you can see her mouth open in “the silent scream”.

    My doctor explained how the numbers keep changing, it used to be 120 was normal, now sugar level of 90 is normal. That way more metformin gets sold and Big Pharma is happy.

    @NeedaChuckle,

    My wife is a physician. She tells me the real problem is in looking for a “normal.” Everyone’s different. Human bodies react in a myriad of ways to the things we do to them.

    For example, my great-grandmother lived to be 104 despite smoking 2 packs of unfiltered Camels a day for 80 years. But, my friend’s uncle died at 48 from lung cancer having never smoked a day in his life.

    So, it appears that doctors and pharmacy companies are pretty much shooting in the dark as far as “normal” is concerned.

    At times obituaries, usually of actors or musicians, are mentioned here. This man was both, as well as being a champion dancer, a stunt double, a WWII paratrooper, and a leader. In fact, he was much more, too.

    Saw an online discussion the other day. Someone said the junk food industry likes the exercise equipment industry because the junk food industry wants people to believe they can eat junk food and then workout to offset the effects. For a similar reason, the exercise equipment industry likes the junk food industry.

    Ahh, I told myself I would not get into any comments about Karen Evans as part of the team. I did not think I had enough information to opine on that, and since this is a great strip generally I did not really care. But recently I did read something where it was made clear that while Greg still does the drawing and overall strategic planning (as we say in my day job as a business adjunct professor) Karen provides tactical (short-term, story by story) arc language and plans, and I have the strong sense of bringing the strip into Millinnial perspective in contradistinction to the Baby Boomer perspective that Greg and most of us have. I think that many of the print viewers of the strip, and a lot of the commentators here are likely Baby Boomers, or early state Gen X. So with that context I think that it is fair to say that this is clearly a somewhat sarcastic Millinnial comment on a current American hypocrisy on food. Particularly on us “older folk.” Younger generations are always fond of pointing out the hypocrisy of the older generations, the ones who were parents or authority figures, and who don’t do as they say they do. “Do as we say not as we do.” The compensating thing is that Millinnials are no different, as will generations that follow them in 2030 to 2050 and beyond will be quick to remind them. Short of cyrogenesic most of us will not be alive or have saved consciousness to see our beloved Millinnials get theirs Karen! Darn. -:)

    Follies: Yesterday one esteemed commenter expressed understandable disappointment at not seeing any of the acts, while another explained that that would have taken too much time and would have been off point.*But, as Levi used to say, the strip covers only about 10 minutes of a 16-waking-hour day. Most of what happens is for us to infer. Therefore, I expanded on Lu & Bern’s act. Add Knute & Ox’s, Tiff & Gunth’s, or Guitarman’s if you wish.*Lu: “Ladies and Germs, I’d like you to meet my friend, World’s Smallest Brain. Say something intelligent, WSD.”Bern: “Something”Lu: “Then say something funny WSD.”Bern: “Something”Lu: “Why are you being so difficult WSD!?!Bern: First you call me intelligent, then funny, now difficult. Make up your mind, Carrot Top.”*Curtain closes to thunderous applause of friends & family.

    I agree, NG. There is some interesting history to that. In the industrial world, including the U.S., during the Industrial Revolution child labor became very important for the wealthy to be able to access and reproduction freedoms were restricted or removed in a number of countries. Before the children were not needed as mill “fodder” for their cheap labor and small hands the laws stayed to a much greater extent out of that aspect of life, but with the rising need for cheap child labor not only did restrictive laws arise or worsen, depending on location, but multiple religions altered their earlier stances, as well. The changes were promoted as introducing moral behaviors, and those who financed the changes got their cheap and too often expendible labor.

    Well, Dr. Oz has made a few points that are indeed valid here and there but he’s not among the top experts arounds when it comes to food and nutrition. And, to your amazement (and mine!), obesity is not as bad as it’s cracked up to be! Source: “Secrets from the Eating Lab” by Traci Mann.

    J and K, yes, the unnamed individual’s (his?) comments are pretty much all over the place vascilating widely across days. Reminds me of someone i knew who was not good about following her health requirements (You get my drift) for her strong needs and swings. One difference is the stick then carrot; my late friend never tried that.

    I thought you handled that elegantly by ignoring it, Jay.
