Goat: What are you doing, rat?
Rat: Holding a funeral for the word 'said'.
Goat: What happened to the word 'said'?
Woman: So the Rat goes, 'Come to the funerl'. And I'm like 'Why?' and he's all, 'You'll see'.
Goat: Never mind.
This actually plays off an old Peanuts strip, with Linus pointing out (to Lucy, if I remember right) that “says” has been replaced by “goes.” Though at that time, “like” and “all” were still a way off…
“Should’ve” is a contraction for “should have.” Like “don’t” for “do not.” Hariseldon59 is correct, people just write it out wrong.-They should also hold a funeral for the word “are.” No one says “where are you?” anymore. It’s always “where you at?” -The following is from a notice I saw posted at a grocery store. The corrections in parenthesis are mine.-“Notice to Employees—-It has come to our attention that fony (phoney) 20 dollar bills are being past (passed.) If you see one of these bills do not except (accept) it.”-There was a lot more, but I can’t remember it. I thought it was a joke, and asked if I could copy it. The girl behind the counter told me no. She was rather upset by my laughing. I wonder if she wrote it.
I’m with you, leftwingpatriot !! It’s impossible to talk to anyone nowadays and not hear the word “like” as either an adjective, noun, verb, or any other type of punctuation. They’ll have to retitle the novel “He Said, She Said” to “He’s Like, She’s Like” ! lol
Every time I hear or read an Englishman saying something is “different to” something else, my teeth grit and I want to shout “different from, you idiot!” and commit serious mayhem Why can’t the English speak English?
Shouldn’t someone contact the webmaster here so we could get a little more up to date with our comments? Everyone here seems to have just “said” whatever they had to say.
What we need is a rally to KILL “so.” Ask a question, get an answer beginning with “So…” regardless of what it is. "What flavor cone do you want? “So, chocolate.”

When they have the funeral for the word “like,” I will shop with my tap shoes on to dance on the grave.

The phrase “hot mess” should have a stake driven through its heart. I’ll gladly provide the hammer.

I’m with Goat in the second panel. Did he get lured into one of Rat’s traps to embarrass him?

Soon, all the words will be dead as Latin.

After very careful review, I’ve found the grammatical error in the third panel — he’s not “The Rat”, he’s just “Rat”.
RH3 almost 8 years ago
And now for a funeral for “affect”. Nothing affects anything now. It “impacts” it.

Oh yes. For non-native speakers, it’s hell. Always guessing do I understand correct, or it’s right the opposite?
anna.i.bykova almost 8 years ago
Just noticed that our comments here say “said” :)) Should be more like “naive is like, …”
synp almost 8 years ago
It sounds much smarter if you call it “the quotative be like”

Have a funeral for “decrease” also. It hasn’t been seen or heard in public for at least the last three years. “Diminish” killed it.

I’ve often made this observation. What is the current health status of ‘says’ and ‘sez?’-——————“So I sez to him, I sez, ‘Who sez that?’ I sez.”

My first thought on seeing the first panel was a funeral for Edward Said, but he died 13 years ago…

I agree. I think that word is used far too much. However if it’s in our vocabulary then what can we do about it?

I remember all the cranky old people complaining about this exact usage when I was in high school in the 80s, so at least some things never change.
