I thought it’d be fun to freeze to death looking like an eskimo in kabuki makeup, all right?

If the comic strip is set in Southern California it should be in the high 90’s out side.

3 divided by one third is the same as 3X3. Therefore 9-9=0plus one equals one. If I had written the equation I’d have written it 9-(3÷1/3)+1

That math problem w nebulous mathematical grammar and punctuation got me looking for some fun examples in English where changes in punctuation alter interpretation.https://www.quora.com/What-are-some-examples-of-sentences-where-punctuation-changes-the-meaninghttp://nationalpunctuationday.com/meaning.htmlSome of those are real fun!

Those of us who have spent most of our lives living in coastal California know about the marine layer that can turn a roasting hot day into sweater weather.

Anyone who listens to NPR might have heard the story this morning about college students who have so few resources that they have no living expenses, no apartment, no dorm space, sleep on couches, no money for food etc. A graduate of Cal State Fullerton was interviewed. Essentially he got by with “a little help from his friends”. I think this is Piro.. an illegal immigrant or child of illegals, grew up on the streets of New York, watched silent films (out of necessity) to avoid being heard, caught and deported; maybe got caught up in a gang for a while (the shaved head star as a symbol). He may be really bright and have done very well on an entrance exam, applied to a southern cal univ (UCLA or UCSC) where the weather is warm and you can sleep outside; maybe he got a scholarship for study and that’s all. He likes “silence” and “blending in”; he’s a man of few words. These are survival tactics for illegals. He wants his degree and to avoid deportation. His looks suggest Latino descent. This is my new take after hearing the story this morning. I missed part of it as I had to leave the room for a few min. Piro’s initial affinity for parties fits in. Parties are a source of food and friends which you need to get by. Someone said a while back that this strip takes place in CA.

Man how do we got off on math problems on comic strip blog? I just wanted to comment how sharp and adult looking Brad looks in the last frame. He has really grown up. Having a fiance like Toni has done a lot of good things for him.

The answer is 1. The first area of confusion for many is not doing the division first. The second area of confusion for many is the division of 3 by 1/3. It is the same as multiplying 3 by 3, which is 9. Some divide 3 by 3, which is not correct. Ultimately, 3 divided by 1/3 is 9. 9-9 is 0. 0+1 is 1.

“In a crossword, I once defined ZERO as “Ten minus one?”.”.I can see how you could do it by removing the numeral one from the tens place.Mathematically, you subtracted one ten by another ten, but you should be ashamed of yourself. (I say this with a snicker, though.)

I meant to put in Bill Cunningham’s obit yesterday, but w Piv having a rough day it went by the wayside. Just as well. They fleshed it out a lot. The man was a living monument – literally, as you will see:http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/26/style/bill-cunningham-legendary-times-fashion-photographer-dies-at-87.html
