So glad that it wasn’t!! – But I’d still check the recipe for trace amounts of Polysorbate 80, Monoglucosadextatrine Thiamate, Polysaccharide Compounds, FD&C Yellows Number 2, 2 1/2, 6 and 43, HGH, and maybe some salt…after all, too much salt’s not good for you…

One reason Bern probably suspected something to have been in the brownies, could have been mostly since she’s seen Dez with imported (and expensive) Dung Tea, “weird mask collections”, etc…

Settled the great brownie issue, Dez is an earth mother who really opens things up in her unique way. No wonder she has all the friends she does, and the reputation, including not being a bad brownie pusher Bernice is kind of wrapped tight though, but Dez loosened her up, and there is the Tiffany and Gunther subtext. What a way to finish up all the questions.

And the week ends on an O. Henry-like plot twist that assures the strip’s worried readers everywhere that Luann remains as squeaky-clean wholesome as ever, to the great amusement and delighted surprise of its fans, who are evidently the most gullible people anywhere in all of comics fandom. And in an equally unexpected twist tomorrow, Frank and Nancy turn out actually to be a middle-aged couple who do and say boring and predictable things!!! Who’d a’ thunk it???

This kind of thinking has driven me crazy my whole life! People assume that you can’t be a creative, unconventional person without drugs. It wears a person down. Some of us have imaginations. Some of us have wide ranging tastes. Some of us don’t do things just because everybody else does them. It’s the easily led Bernices of the world who are more likely to do drugs (it didn’t take her long to cave at the first temptation!) than people like us. We. Don’t. Need. It.

When I was in college, there was one girl who always got stupid drunk. So at a party I was the one making drinks and not a drop of alcohol went into hers. Everyone except her knew what was going on. Sure enough as the night progressed, this one girl got more and more stupid drunk: stumbling, slurring and acting like a fool. When we finally revealed it to her she swore up and down that she had poured from her own bottle of booze into her drink because she knew there was none in hers. Funny how that bottle went missing when we asked where she kept it. Busted.

“hey, same here regarding chocolate and caffeine …”^Wow, did not know that!! – “Tell her it does get better with age ..the symptoms diminish … and try to head off problems by taking a tylenol before consuming anything that might pose a problem.”^I told her just that, that it does get better.. and she chuckled and said: “Does that mean I can have some starting tomorrow?” Lol!!! – And thank you for that! Very kind advice!!! I can say that she has followed this, though she has to use Motrin in place of Tylenol. Sometimes, she has to take Motrin, before drinking a Pepsi, as sometimes she needs the Pepsi to ward off the occasional Asthma attack here and there, as the caffeine (in this instance) does do her good, by “opening up” her breathing when it occurs….

I apologize, IamJayBluE. I was too touchy. I had just read an article about a sweet couple who liked to live the Victorian lifestyle—in their clothes, their home, their appliances, their old-fashioned bicycles, etc, and how much pleasure they felt in this innocent choice—then I read about the hate mail and death threats they received as a result. So that put me on edge. Why do people hate nonconformists so badly? I have never understood it.

I forgot to say, earlier: It may not necessarily be indicative of anything, that Dez had to change to hypoallergenic incense for Bern. It could be that Bern has zero tolerance for the chemical reactions in incense, but maybe would be okay with other things. Or it could be that her allergies are only for scented things, period, but could be more tolerant when it comes to clothing, etc. Probably Dez was trying to “cover all the bases”, in regards to the incense, just in case. – Same way some suffer from hay fever, some from ragweed, some from pollen, but some from all of those things. Or how some are allergic to all animals, and some only to certain ones.

Well, I was wrong about this being a dream sequence.-However, I’m not convinced that Greg Evans understands what being an R.A. is about at most colleges. Normally it’s about advising the first-year students. So far the only students that Bernice has been shown interacting with as an R.A. are people who were already at the university last year and whom she already knew.-If, instead, being an R.A. at Moony U. is about enforcing the dorm rules, then it still doesn’t look like Bernice is any good at that. Without Dez to steer everyone outside, the party would have wound up consisting of loud music in Bernice’s room with Bernice unable to close it down.

I agree with seismic-2 about Gunther and the beers. I find it much more plausible that he had three or four Peruvian beers while pouring out his heart to Luis about his confusion and frustration with Rosa, before realizing that three or four Peruvian beers contain about as much alcohol as (I’m guessing?) five or six US beers.

This is a much more reasonable explanation for how hammered he was when he got on the tour bus. If I remember correctly, this was a story he told to Mrs. Burger, which would also give him a reason for choosing to “edit” the story just a little.

And I, too, feel vaguely insulted that Greg seems to be waving his hand over the fact that Bernice, as far as we can tell, thought she was ingesting “magic” brownies. Since they weren’t really dosed, I guess that’s OK and we’re not supposed to notice.

“…Drugs and sex are off the table…”.

I actually didn’t expect that there would be any dialogue about it (i.e. the brownies)at all , as was the case w/ Tiff and Gunther alone in a room together getting a little heated. Nothing was said there so we can imagine whatever we want (which I am sure fell short of actual sex). But here, the information was explicitly stated; so no more arguing or imagining what was or wasn’t (i.e. the brownies). Marijuana is illegal (still in most states) but sex is not. I can understand that Greg would not want anything illegal coming into the plot of a family oriented strip. Still, he created a situation that allowed for debate before drawing the line.

@Lonnie Cavenee said:What a cop out ending. Ah well we should all know what to expect from Greg after all these years. . . . —————————Let’s not be too negative. This arc was a bit more forward-moving than most recently. .We saw ‘The Director’ and the back of two heads, one of which could be Sun on her road back to rehabilitation. .Of course we may never see ‘The Director’ again, but we could. He or she is the first non-ugly character that has appeared here for a long time. .And don’t forget that Piro has his bed-roll stashed in Bernice’s room — planning to camp out again. .Is he in fact a student, or maybe a local tramp??.Perhaps we will get to Luann on her campus by Monday. .Let’s hope. .Or maybe we will learn something about the mysterious Prudence, or maybe see CEO Gray at the warehouse, or Tiff and Gunth in a class together, or the marriage plans finally becoming real, or … move ahead on any of a dozen of the other hanging arcs.….Nevertheless, if Sunday is nothing but old hat about messy rooms, cute dogs, or Nancy one-upping Frank, I may get a bit negative.

Our rooms were desks and beds with a chest of drawers, but there were no rules against having food in the rooms. Using hot plates was forbidden (but of course you can’t bake brownies that way anyway). That’s all a moot point, of course, because if food were against the rules at Moony, then the brownies would definitely be against the rules, not “likely” against them, so clearly that’s not what Bernice meant.

There’s no reason for Bernice to suspect that food is “likely” against the rules. After a year of living in the dorm, she would certainly know whether it is or isn’t. Bernice is referring to whether the brownies “likely” are laced, or aren’t. Period.
