The 2019 snail racing championship just finished yesterday.

The snail races actually move along at a respectable clip.

They all speed around the track in tiny race cars.

Sammy’s car has his initial on all four sides.

So when he pulls out all the stops, the spectators say, Wow! Look at that “S” car go!

[Yeah, old joke. But with this item and the race and the name Sammy, how could I risk squeezing it into this obvious template?]

Let’s hope the Grey Man of Merrick doesn’t suffer the same fate as the Old Man of the Mountain in NH.

There was a movie called Turbo, all about a racing snail.

Isn’t Q.E. II’s body double attending rehearsals in her place sort of defeating the purpose of holding rehearsals? Just sayin’ … (And yeah, I know they’re also rehearsals for all the rest of the participants, so not completely wasted. Still …)

So how many times have we seen “the Queen” on TV (or in person if you’re in England) but were really looking at a “body-double” instead? I almost feel like people are getting cheated.

I have a feeling she hasn’t been the only world leader with a body double.

They have the snail races on ESPN+; there are 19 episodes. Each episode is approximately 2 hours and 21 minutes; depending on how the snails are feeling that day.

In 2013 there was a frost delay. Some goof put salt on the track. Needless to say, the race was cancelled that year.
