But HOW to introduce the name of the teacher we see all the time? Will it be as SMOOTH as the revelation of COACH Bangles’ name??
A given name and a family name? What an honor.
P. U. This is terrible work! Not smooth in any way!
Hello Melissa, so nice to meet you!
The Melissa Bangles?
Makes documenting these characters easier. Wonder if there is a wiki going for nu-Nancy.
Smoooooo-oo——ooooth introduction of the Melissa. I barely noticed it!
So this is the witness protection identity of Miss Agnes LaBel? Smoothly adopting an anagram that no one would ever think to crack?
Much as I love today’s joke, I’m also lowkey impressed by the first couple of panels, with Melissa Bangles relaxing against the tree, her thought bubbles forming happy little clouds, while Nancy fails to improve in the background.
I’m not familiar enough with the comic’s long history, but have Nancy or Sluggo’s last names ever been revealed?
I think Melissa Bangles might be Michael Steele in real life…[The Bangles are an American pop rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1981. They scored several hit singles during the 1980s, including “Walk Like an Egyptian”, “Manic Monday,” “A Hazy Shade of Winter,” and “Eternal Flame.” Their classic line-up consisted of Michael Steele on bass and vocals, founding members Susanna Hoffs on vocals and rhythm guitar, Debbi Peterson on drums and vocals, and Vicki Peterson on lead guitar and vocals.]
This is why I read Nancy. A little early morning paradigm shift.
Like most novels, we won’t understand till Chapter-10. Trust and obey…. In a month or two we will be able to re-read War and Peace with greater understanding.
This is getting as bad as the old Alley Oop.
Totally impressed that Nancy’s desire to dominate is so strong that she’s still tossing that basketball. Even if she can’t hit the basket, her force in throwing it where she’s throwing it should be strong enough to knock that magnet-school trash talker head over heels. Can we be sure that’s not her goal?
I dunno, I was kinda getting to LIKE just thinking of ‘Coach’ as ‘Coach’…
Olivia is having a good time (as are we) : )
This was rather jarringly funny! :) The transition was SO smooth. :)
I had the same thought as RR Bedford…. when I heard the teacher’s name…. I immediately thought of the musical group (due to the teacher’s last name).
With Nancy’s vertical thrust not seeming to be on the pathway towards success anytime soon…. perhaps she may need to switch strategies and suggest a switch to dodgeball. :)
This is a comment. I love a gag that is clear and obvious, yet creative at the same time. This was my comment. ;)
Wonder if her husband is named Joe? I knew a man, Joe Bangles, and he balled for you, in worn out shoes. Silver hair, a ragged shirt and baggy pants, the old soft shoe / He jumped so high / He jumped so high
I can’t wait to see what Coach Bangles does in response to this hard look in the mirror that Nancy is unknowingly igniting…
Mr Bo-jangles meets Ms Bangles making such a ruckus.
I like how today’s strip, very subtly, revealed the name of this character.
This strip is an example to everyone on how to introduce new characters smoothly.
