I made this one thinking it would be hot in Osaka already, but the weather is mostly cool and rainy. The summer heat is definitely on its way, once the rainy season passes.
The original FC&S comics on my website start here: http://friedchickenandsushi.com/comics/2010/4/12/fcs001-welcome.html
I’m living in America now but my wife is Japanese so we visit every summer to see my in-laws and enjoy everything we love about Japan.
I taught English in junior high schools in the suburbs of Osaka for two years. You can find out more on my website friedchickenandsushi.com. The original webcomic was more autobiographical.
If you’ve lived or visited Japan, you know this is true. People treat you like you’re from another planet. It gets worse when you travel farther outside of the big cities. You are truly the celebrity alien.
There was a barbershop right downstairs of the apartment I lived in outside of Osaka. I would pass and look in to see if maybe I would go in for a haircut. The barbers would always give me a blank stare full of fear. No problem. I never went in. Back to shaving my head bald!
Living abroad can drive you nuts. Especially, the microaggressions associated with living in Japan. It’s healthy to make time to vent your frustrations. Mom has it down to a science.
Best of luck with writing your novel!
We get a peek inside of Karl’s inner thoughts, and they ain’t pretty. I agree with Tanuki, though. We should all spend more time listening to our innermost thoughts and pay more attention to what we truly want out of life.
Love your dynamic storytelling today! Horses are challenging to draw — amazing work making it look easy.
