Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for April 13, 2024

Typical.. Bets didn’t follow through and give Stef a piece of her mind. Stef walks all over them.

It’s sort of funny that the authors admit that Luann is pretty much an air-head.

I wonder if Luann will agree to their branding proposal.. or will she tell them to buzz off?

“Vacant”; hmm not exactly accurate. She is kind with good intentions but often makes poor decisions, often due to her interactions with Bernice. At least Tiff and Bets did not label her “wishy-washy” like Lucy branded Charlie Brown.

I don’t like “vacant” for Luann – sounds like she’s a dummy – she’s not. But yes Luann has fewer notable personality characteristics and maybe she could use a brand.

Given the Luann character was based on the strip’s creator’s daughter, and that same daughter now has a ‘hand’ in the strip, seems like she’d be a bit offended by this lol

I noticed the ‘vacant’ sign pointing to Luann’s head. Gerg an Karen must be readin some of the comments here cause some of th commenters say Luann doesnt do much, got no direction in life, and hasnt got much of a brain.

Mebbe it’s been a 20 year long setup for the ‘Vacant’ head gag. Talk about patience..

Don’t go near Bernice until she does her doctoral dissertation. And forgive me for bringing it up until she meets that grad school guy doing his dissertation on Nietzche and Wager’s Ring Cycle. Please, with Bernie there’s no alternative. Perfect match but ignored by Greg and Karen. It’s a fit. But thanks for the strip! He’s got to be a Dead Head into half hour jams of Dark Star. Bernie’s dream guy.

This is a good way to bring Luann into the story arc. The strip is called Luann so she should be in it occasionally.

Ah, don’t be so hard on Luann. (And Karen)

“Branding” Luann is actually a GOOD idea.

Lu has been (re)branded before kinda, back in high school, when she changed her hair-do. And It was a BIG improvement IMO.

    And Re-Lax.

There’s no friggin’ way that Luann is gonna PAY these ladies 500 bucks.

Besides. There is a SLIM possibility that BATUB will soon, quickly SHIFT its focus from “branding” Luann to “branding” the other young lady that lives in casa DeGroot: Bernice.

And THAT would be a Heroic Public Service. ;-)

I think “Luann” could use a New Rule — no story arc to last more than two weeks. These month-long stories where people talk about their feelings without doing anything are killing the strip.

I wonder if G&K read their own comic. As time goes on it’s seeming that they’re getting more and more desperate for ideas and some way to try to tie silly concepts together.

If Tiff and Toxic Bets need a test subject to rebrand, they should look in the mirror first.

I take back what I said about Stef being the perfect client. Luann is the perfect client. She’s as ditzy, air-headed and hyperactive as they come. Basically, she’s Pepper Ann without the glasses and orange hair.

This is a surprise indeed and I love it! Still think Bernice would need their help more (and maybe she’ll be the second test). But Luann offers way more possibilities, working with her is surely more fun and she has expressed the desire to change many times. Tiffany would also want to repay her for how she listened and advised her during the pool party. I don’t think Bets and Tiffany know Luann wants to be a writer, maybe that will be the theme of the rebrand.

Bets, a “brand” is for products, and a way to sell and make money. If you aren’t selling it, you don’t need one. She’s not an entertainer. I hope Luann isn’t stupid enough to pay someone to advertise herself.

Maybe Luann does need to develop a “brand” for herself; when she sits down to answer the questions she will come to realize that there is nothing in particular that defines her as person, a student etc. The fact that she doesn’t have a “brand” (as others do) may be the one thing that motivates her.

A lot of people are saying that Bernice is the one that needs rebranding, but I doubt Bernice would agree to it, any more than Stefi would have agreed to it. Both Bernice and Stefi consider themselves to be absolutely perfect just the way they are, so why would they want to change?

I think this is rather mean-spirited. Luann is not vacant. She does not need a “brand”. She is just a generally quiet, generally peaceful college student trying to figure herself out. IMO, the “brand” that Bets and Tiff may make up for Luann would not be helpful, but more likely either kind of mean (if it goes against who she is) or will be something that Luann feels driven to try to be (at the expense of who she IS or in order to feel like she “fits in”). I am disappointed in today’s comic.

Luann is fine how she is.

This is the 2nd time Luann is the guinea pig for someone’s project. The 1st time was when Bern analyzed how she engaged with different guys; she agreed and volunteered herself. Now this, which seems a little more targeted to things Luann could do for herself. If it helps her think about who she is and where she wants to go (in life) that’s great, but if she ends up with a brand that discourages and is hurtful that would be bad but also bad for business i.e. if Bets and Tiff ended up doling out negative or unrealistic images for people.
