Francis, Mrs. B, that poor woman! History wasn’t kind to her. I just read an article that said some scholars think Bacon was an imposter that pretended to write Shakespeare’s plays for him.
Bacon also said (per Wikipedia): “Some books are to be tasted; others swallowed; and some few are to be chewed and digested.” I’d like to see Sally’s take on that line now that I think about it.
“Read not to contradict and confute; nor to believe and take for granted; nor to find talk and discourse; but to weigh and consider. Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.”
The legislature in my state is has been changing ALL the “sexist” words in its code. So “lineman” became “line maintenance person”. Glen Campbell would have to sing, “…I’m just a line maintenance person for the county…”.
