It’s been my experience that the fun starts at 2 am.

Of course Calvin has the delusion that a superintendent is awake and takes phone calls at 2 A.M.

Last one in bed is a rotten egg…..

Guess he’s not getting the coffee he wanted.

In my town, it wasn’t really about the number of inches of snow, but whether or not the buses could run.

Look at it this way, Calvin…if you finish your homework tonight, you’ll have a whole day to create those snow monsters that drive Dad nuts!

Beings that you woke the super up this early, he’ll personally see to it that school is in session on time, regardless of weather.

The only thing to close our school was a force 10 gale…….

His mood certainly needs improving.

Calvin’s optimism is infectious. We all have gone through the days when we except the school to be locked when home work is not done. The superintendent does not seems to be amused by the call. Dad is in no mood to witness the optimism.

I was born in 1942 and don’t remember the school EVER being closed for a weather event. This was in MinneSNOWda. The only time we were allowed to stay home was if the temp was -10 C or colder because we had to walk to school. I will not claim to have walked ten miles each way .. uphill.

Now Cal is on 2 lists, the teacher and the principal. Not good.

Sometimes I think Calvin goes out of his way to find excuses to make other people’s lives miserable.

How did Calvin get the number of the person he’s calling?

And Dad makes it all abut him….. Calvin should just play sick. Yeah, too easy

Know somebody who grew up in NH in 1960’s- he said they always got ready for school despite any storm. Only way to get to stay home was if the bus couldn’t make it up the hill!

Beat it, Calvin. The chances of a new ice age is over 1 million.

We had a few snow days here in western NY in the Hell Winters of 1977 and 1978. The Blizzard on ‘77 was just the most memorable of many storms. You just can’t keep the roads cleaned when 5-6 inches an hour is coming down. The school districts were always afraid of buses full of kids stuck in snowbanks or flipped over on the roads. The snow days were sweet but we had to make them up. IIR, school didn’t end in 1977 until almost July. You would much rather be home in June than February

Before the days of caller ID, calling someone was entirely different.

LOL… And I don’t think this is another dream.

I know how this ends. I own a three volume hardbound copy of entire comic series. Anyone following this strip should be able to know how it all ends as usual.

Gone are the “who is this?” days.

Calvin won’t be attending school, but not because of snow….

The superintendent would definitely have an unlisted number.

It is life in second grade!

It’s the Superintendent’s fault. He/she should never give his number out to the kids.

Two seconds? I’d say Dad is being merciful.

I remember being driven to the bus stop, 2 inches on the plowed road, 8 inches of snow on the shoulder. Riding the bus 10 miles to the school. Roads would be clear by the end of the day. Only time there was a snow day was if there was still Heavy snow falling, or they were still cleaning up the next day.

Maybe it’s a different superintendent from the last time Calvin tried such a call, in the 11/30/1990 strip.

Someone picks up the phone at the supe’s office at 2 AM?

If he gets a snow day, he’ll just spend it playing in the snow and forget to do his homework AGAIN.

Back in the 1970’s, I lived just down the block from the elementary school I attended. School days were for others. I could always reach the school unless it was closed. Now we have zoom classes and Schoology. Schools never closed. Class is in session! All because of the global pandemic.

This is me with school ALL THE TIME I procrastinate a LOT
