When Kid was in an alt-school, we found that if we left at 7:50, we got him to school at 8:00, thirty minutes before the start. But if we started at 7:51, we barely made it by 8:30… and even missed it occasionally.

Because “all those other people/cars at rush hour”.

I loved working from home: a 2 minute commute. That’s how long it took to log into the computer on my desk in “the office.”

Yes, I did have a cube at the plant. It had a broken chair and was used to store junk for which nobody else had an immediate need. I also had to put up a big sign. “This is NOT a spare laptop. Do NOT turn it off or disconnect it from the network.”

On the other hand, when I retired from that job, cleaning out the office was easy. I had a spare pair of glasses in one of the drawers for the rare visits I did make.

Back when I was a traveling fool for work, I’d have to work in the LA area from time to time. I learned to completely avoid the expressways most of the time and take the surface roads by telling my Garmin to “avoid highways”. Sometimes the road I took was parallel to whichever expressway I might’ve taken.. traffic on the expressway sitting still, me whizzing past the yahoos. Harbor Blvd is the best-kept secret in that area if you’re traveling north-south. Many times I could have shot a cannon down the road and not hit anyone (thanks for that phrase, Dad).

In the 1950’s the Marxist republican Eisenhower taxed rich people at 90% and built socialist freeways for the masses all across this country.

Today’s republicans want to give all tax dollars to rich republicans and take away SSA, Medicare and welfare to pay for them, then they want to declare themselves to be dictators so they can take your rights away.

Actually, the American “freeway” system had its “roots” in the autobahns built by Hitler in Germany, prior to W.W. II Adolph’s idea was a national highway system that could allow rapid deployment of his military to ALL corners of his country…

When former general and now president Eisenhower proposed the same system for America in the 1950s the argument for the rapid deployment of troops to all corners of the country was used – our interstate system was NEVER designed to move people rapidly, it was designed to move “Troops” rapidly…

That’s how Ike pitched it to get the funding from congress…

One of our more amusing columnists wrote recently about going on holiday around Christmas. His Dad always insisted on hitting the road early – around 4.00 am – “To miss the traffic”. It never apparently dawned on him that half the street full of Dads had exactly the same idea. "No matter how early I start out .. " yes, exactly!
