I once had a coding meet at the cafe which is right in front of the studios of KEXP Seattle. One time a song came on and several people scrambled to get their phones out to sample it and find out what it is. I already had my laptop browser open, so I searched for the radio station’s website and found the title that way. Everyone else liked their solution because it was more high-tech, but I thought my solution was more elegant.
If you stop doing it “the hard way”, you’re going to forget how and be just as stupid as most of the world seems to have become since the advent of the smart phone and social media.
Shazam on my Apple watch is often helpful in identifying something I’m hearing. Useful in particular where it’s a classical music station we have on in the background, & I might miss the announcer identifying it several minutes later when the piece is finished. But also in coffee shops where they have a CD going.
He gets up to check his laptop, she just uses her phone. Is that the hard/easy way comparison being made? "My Way” is of course a song made famous by Frank Sinatra.
I look bleep up for more information. I found this morning that April Wines Sign of the Gypsy Queen was a cover of a lesser known Canadian guitarist. Then I listened to his, not as good, but now I know.
With us it is who is that in this movie – and what other movies have they been in? IMDB is our go to.
And when the question is who was in that Broadway play we saw (back when one could afford to do so – IBDB is our go to. (We used to see shows for US$3 per ticket rising to maybe US$10 per ticket before we stopped going to shows.)

I still like to excercise my brain in those instances, giving it at least half an hour to remember before I look it up.

I was never a big fan of Bruce Cockburn but “Dancing in the Dragon’s jaws” came out when I was in college and I bought and enjoyed the album.

I figure it out as best I can and then check with my buddies, Wiki and Google, to see if I was right.
(My wife asked me about an actress on a show I hadn’t watched even back then. “I don’t know, but VICTORIA PRINCIPAL comes floating up from somewhere.”
“Probably right because that is the name popping up in my head too.”
Then I checked and we were right.)
