Brutal.

Bad Garfield, bad cat, shoo go away.

A more useful gift would be one of those Bissel spot cleaning machines.

A mop. And lots of cleaning utensils.

People who get a puppy deserve no sympathy. They should know what trouble they’re getting themselves in for and that they brought it on themselves.

A large bag of puppy chow and a card congratulating them for the new member of the family.

Now if you wanna give a present to someone who’s got a new pet snake, a multiple outlet thing to plug into the wall outlet and a fan and a heater and a thermoregulator should do. That’s assuming he already got an appropriately sized enclosure for a snake. Now it’s not your job to feed the snake all his or her life because that’s the owner’s responsibility. See yesterday’s comment about how if you buy a kitty, you feed the kitty. That applies to all pets.

And what do you give somebody with an old antique puppy? ((Just a comment on why people are always in demand for a new puppy, but the old antique puppies get ignored.)

That puppy is gonna be quite messy. I also give my sympathies to every new puppy owner.

Are you sure? Think about what it’s like to be gifted the “cuttest kitty” (not no name anyone back from Abu-Dhabi) and maybe would you want to rephrase it?

That and a gift card to PetSmart…

Puppies are adorable but anyone getting one should do their homework first. Mainly can they endure the chores that come with them and the training. Hence, the sympathy card.

Quite a mordacious comment there Garfield…perhaps Odie will tinkle on your leg…

If Odie got stuck in the pound like in the first special, would Garfield give Odie a sympathy card?

I don’t know about that, Garfield. I’ve noticed that cats and puppies get along quite well. It’s the dogs that can get to be problematical.

I’d give them dog toys

There’s a whole kit, actually. A rolled up newspaper, waterproof rugs, and noise cancellation headphones.

No…no…no Garfield. Sympathy cards are for grooms to be, for a new puppy owner you get them a 8 week subscription to the local newspaper. It works well in bird cages as well.

My aunt’s puppy bit my brother’s finger.

It hasn’t bitten anyone else since, to my knowledge.

I can attest to that!

Somebody send my wife a sympathy card. Our 14-year dog whines and howls and drives her crazy.

Now that I think about it, I think these “Dear Ask a Dog” strips are supposed to be reminiscent of the earlier strips when Garfield would receive letters from other people asking him what to do about what their cats and dogs do.

If it is a puppy from the herding group, send them bandaids. They are little land sharks. Odie is a piece of cake compared to them.
