More importantly, the quantity of snacks will also go down. It’s the apocalypse for RJ!

It’s not just the quality, R.J. The price goes up and people feel they can live without snacks.

Kroger has “Price Lock” on their store brands. So now the store brands that I normally buy are gone and I have to pay even more for the name brands.

Anecdote: many years ago, I organized a group campout for a rather strange crowd. We had a campfire, of course. People made use of the fire for burnt offerings, because obviously.

Someone had brought a package of the abominations known as “Low-Fat Twinkies” and, in defiance of all warnings, decided to sacrifice one. The offering was not accepted. It just sat in the fire… and sat there… and sat there.

The lesson: there are some snacks that you can’t even kill with fire. (We considered sending the remaining units to NASA for evaluation as emergency heat shield patches for the Shuttle.)

The other week I was at the market and semi-sweet chocolate chips, 33 cents for 12 oz. Not the major brand, big freaking deal. Got 6 bags for less than the price of one of the major brand. Made my first batch of cookies the other day, delicious!!! Bacon is the only thing, I don’t compromise on. What I save by doing so on other products makes up for spending extra on it.

and why prey tell are prices going up? Could it be the constant printing of money for goods we don’t have and the restrictions placed on our ability to produce our own oil and fund our own transportation, even selling our reserves to foreign governments that hate us?

Interstate Brands management killed Hostess in 2012 and the rights were sold off. Today they’re made in “Right to Work (for less)” Red states. The products themselves have suffered in quality and size. They cost more, are much smaller and have a nasty taste to them. Had one of their cupcakes last night for the first time in years and it was obscenely disgusting.

Winkies were actually the names of the big green guards of the Wicked Witch of the West in the famous film version of “The Wizard of Oz”. So if it is a witch, a bucket of water may be much more effective than fire.

Or they still get the good stuff, but it’s been hit by shrinkflation (paying the same for a smaller size)…
