The F.1 version used by the Royal Flying Corps was the main production version, powered by a 130 hp Clerget 9B rotary engine & armed with twin Vickers synchronized guns. The 2F.1 was used by the Royal Naval Air Service, & was powered by a 150 hp Bentley BR1 rotary engine.
I don’t think I would remove the machine guns. Sopwith Camels were known to be deadly on take-off. The extra forward weight probably helped with take-offs more than hindering.
