Get you parents to tell you what they were like as a kid.

Like Arnold Lobel’s “Frog and Toad” and James Marshall’s “George and Martha” stories.

I’m TOTALLY in favor of that attitude!

I know how she feels. That’s why all my favorite bed time stories began “Dear Penthouse…”

What were bedtime stories? I just got go to bed and don’t turn a light on to go outside to wee in the middle of the night.

The kid is wise well beyond her years.

Even if he did that it could possibly “backfire” – it could reveal that what’s going on in the real world is a bunch of nonsense.

“Read me the story about the boy who cried wolf. I NEVER get tired of that one.”

Lewis Carroll or Edward Lear it is, then.

During the lockdown, when kids were taking classes over Zoom (or whatever) I saw what the teachers were reading during “story time”. Every one had a moral – climate change, inclusion, racism, bullying, etc. I’m progressive but FFS – let a kid be a kid.

That’s why fairy tales are so wonderful. On the surface, they’re all fantasy and nonsense, but deeper down they do have life lessons. Andrew Lang’s collections are the best!

I want a world that helps kids make sense of the story.
