Unwanted guest on Dot View’s show. The Tonsils imitator

Recalls worst times she ever had. Old Tonsils was a traitor

To his good side. His better half. The man he could have been

Beneath the thumb of Mr. Crime, who led him into sin.

Memories of those bad days come flooding back and how

Imitation of a fool should leave the building now.

Dot feels that the past is past. She shall not make a fuss

Dot may be done with the past. The past’s not done with us.

    Good morning™, everyone!

Those of us who have read the story from 1952 know almost everything in today’s strip and those who have read the hundreds of comments over the last week here on GoComics know most of it, but normal readers of the strip don’t know any of it and today’s strip is very informative.

What we did find out today is that the executive producer of the Dot View Show is just as ignorant of the important history as Vitamin Flintheart was.

Good morning™, those about to be fished !

I do believe this is the closest we will see to an old style grisly demise. At least producer guy acknowledges Dot having a personal life and being interested enough to ask about her involvement with original Tonsils, but the show must go on, so suck it up cornflake and get ready for filming.

Love the detail of boss’s office and especially his desk.

We still do not have an official name for Tonsillitis. Mike probably wanted him to forever be known as The One Who Shall Not Be Named.

Love the flashback art. Has a very 50s, Doris Day feel to it.

Could Mike be going around the long way to tell the original tale?

Mister Crime. Mister. Crime. You must be joking. What next, a character named Doctor Extortion, or Professor Larceny, or Mister Bribery? Oh, wait…

Why Tonsils wasn’t put in a police protection program? Why the good samaritan Gus didn’t call the police, instead of Dot? And why Mr Crime was so interested in Tonsils assigning him to kill Dick Tracy?

Tonsils has been avenged on July 15 2012 when Panda became a barracuda’s snack.

His outfit in the optional frame at the top has a distinct watermelon vibe to it. (I like his eye better there than in the other frames where it is blue.)

Um, make up your mind about that guy’s name. Is it Watts or Jenkins?

The Dot View and Tonsils story in a nutshell, fit for an ignorant Executive Producer (don’t these guys do any homework?). Also, a convenient recap for readers not up to speed with the backstory.

(And, yes, there does seem to be something amiss in Tracy’s Hall of Fame, where one name or the other is out of its correct context….)

    Hope it doesn’t fall out.

How long has it been exactly since tonsils2 appeared in the strip? I’m only asking because of the fact that almost EVERY SINGLE DAY SINCE THEN ALL WE’VE BEEN SEEING IS RECAPS!!!

Unlike the Tonsils of yore, this incarnation is deep into the drug trade…

Excellent rendition of Gould’s original panels by Shelley. It is good to recap and give the history of the characters or the situation.

Joseph Wambaugh was a good “former cop” author. If you haven’t read his books, you may have seen The Onion Field movie. The Choirboys book was hilarious (until the end). Decades later I still remember the drunk, legless man yelling something like “HEY LADIES – MY D**K DRAGS THE GROUND!” I guess he looked at the glass as half full…

At first, I was surprised that they showed a female hosting a variety/talk show in 1952. I then remember reading about “Hour Glass”, the first network TV variety show from 1946. It was co-hosted by actress Helen Parrish, who some consider as TV’s first star.

1-DOT DASH: YOU THERE – YEAH, I’M POINTING AT YOU! WHY’D YOU “OK” THIS ASTRO ANDREWS CHARACTER AS A GUEST ON MY SHOW?!?!

JOHN JAMES SMITH JONES: Sheesh! What a diva! I’d hate to see her if she ever moved up from Local Access TV…

2-JJSJ: Well, like millions of others around the world, I loved GROOM YOUR POODLE so I thought we might get more than 100 viewers if we booked this Astro character to sing it. What’s your problem?

    3-DOT: It’s a long story…

4-…I dated the original Tonsils. I would gaze longingly into that eye for hours…

5-…and then a fish ate him.

JJSJ: THAT’S A LONG STORY??? I JUST GOT COMFORTABLE!

    DOT: Oh. I guess it wasn’t so… The End…?

Dot, in those days, might have fell under Tonsil’s spell. It has been many years, she seems wiser now. Hopefully not a work-a-holic to the degree that she has no room for a “significant other”. If she does, the singer can take a hike.

Now that the executive producer has been clued in by Dot, he can get someone to substitute for her when the singer appears on the show.

Mr. Executive producer…Dot learned the hard way…“never mix business with pleasure”. It would behoove you not to brush off what she is saying….your career could go down the tubes. Who would want this “blunder” on his resume.

The colors on this Sunday are all off again. Shelley is trying to figure out where the problem is and get it resolved. I will try and post a link to the correct version soon.
