It’s actually pretty easy to explain this. Two ways at least:

Darwin: Which group survived better by internalizing their anger?

Psychology: Which group has seen their ascendancy eroded by current trends.

One group is getting murdered by police in disproportionate numbers.

The other group is committing domestic terrorism in disproportionate numbers.

The only mystery is why the first group is not more angry and doing real damage like what has been done to them. The opportunist looting of 2020 would look like a kids party.

Angry old white men…yuck….but here’s why….they are scared to death angry old white men who, even though they can’t admit it; they are weak, wimpy, poor-me, tantrum throwing crybabies just like their cult leader. They are so afraid of the payback for centuries of abuse…same reason that they are afraid of women they can’t dominate.

It would be racist to say it’s because they’re genetically inferior, so it must be learned. What is it about white culture that makes whites so violent and hateful? When will the white community take responsibility for its toxicity?

In the ’60s, there was an internal FBI document postulating civil war between the races. Now it appears that spectre is raising its head again between the Alt-Reich fascists and the followers of democracy.

Naw, the Turd Reich isnt racist or fascist or Nazis. Naw…

And there are only “good people, fine people… I know many of them” in the FluTrucksKlan north of the border with absolutely no influence at all from the Reich Wing now, is there?

    Well… maybe a bit…

It’s very simple. The group on the left seeks reparation, equality under law, and equal opportunity. The group on the right seeks to stem the erosion of white privilege, and lucky for them, the US Senate and Supreme Court have the same anger and fears. /s

I have always wondered how people of color manage to be so patient. Note how short a period in Am history that laws have been enacted to ensure equality (People of color, LGBT+, women, disabled, non-christians) for all. So many white folk cannot handle being knocked off their place at the top of the ladder… might have to prove they’re worthy and many certainly aren’t. Thus the voter suppression laws, the conservative push to put everyone back in their ‘place’. Patriarchy, hierarchy, domination culture. I hope we are seeing the last gasp of such violent, vicious, stifling inequality/inequity.

Former Rep. Joe Walsh (who also admits his fault here) put it best: "These people are talking about a life where the factory that you worked at was right there in town. Now it is gone. This was a world where men married women and women married men. That’s gone. There is the stupid stuff too, such as their belief that back then they could freely say “Merry Christmas.” In their eyes now, that’s a struggle. I hear this stuff all the time. The country had borders, and nobody could come into this country illegally. In their minds, that’s all gone. Now some of this is an issue of race, where they long for a time when in their minds white people reigned supreme…

All of these “principled conservatives” and never-Trumpers and establishment people, their base had been telling them for years what they were scared and pissed off about. But the party did nothing about it. People like Newt Gingrich riled them up. And then the Tea Party people like me, we came along and we riled them up. Trump and this moment were always waiting to happen, because the party ignored their base for years instead of sitting the base down, educating them and teaching them that 1953 is never coming back."

From the LA Times, letters to the editor:

My uninformed white brothers, you have no idea what being treated unfairly and walking under a cloud of discrimination every day is like. So, stop trying to cover up the damage that whites have done with segregation and discrimination against Blacks and other people of color, whose sweat and labor help build this great country — and who are still waiting to be treated fairly.

I’m an old white guy who thinks that all rainbows are beautiful, including the human ones. But I must admit that it’s other people in my demographic who concern me the most about the way the country is headed. My hopes are pinned on the upcoming generations. Go, kids! Make the nation safe for democracy again! I’ll do my poor bit to help.

It’s an example of General Relativity. The degree of oppression is always relative to your experience. If your experience is that of a spoiled child you’ll get angry about things that normal people regard as minor inconveniences.

The group on the left has had a slow steady (with some hiccups) rise in their fortunes while the group on the right has had slow steady decline. This has many causes, I personally blame Reagan and trickle down economics. There is change coming and we have a choice to fight it or deal with, it but it’s happening.

They’re angry because they’ll face something like they’ve dished out.

If their former victims are half as vindictive, they’ll have to face half what they’ve dished out. It’s intolerable.

If their former victims are a tenth as vindictive, they’ll have to face half of what they’ve dished out. It’s intolerable.

If their former victims are a hundredth as vindictive, they’ll have to face one percent of what they’ve dished out. One percent! It’s intolerable.

If their former victims have no desire to hurt them in any way, and they only have to face the knowledge of what was done that benefitted them, well: It’s intolerable.

Here’s what they’ll settle for: Everybody has to praise them, and pet them, and kiss up to them, and tell them they’re the best, and push everybody else off the sidewalk and make them look down while they go by. We’ve tolerated it so far.

It’s simply that humans feel safe living in a hierarchy, knowing that tomorrow will be the same as today was the same as yesterday. They don’t mind people they consider superior to dump all over them, but heaven help any they consider inferior to try to get their level.

I see a rather disturbing trend on this thread. A few of you on the left are proudly claiming credit for flagging the speech of those you disagree with. In some cases flagging comments REGARDLESS OF CONTENT, simply because of the identity of the poster.

I have sparred with quite a few of you over the years. We disagree, often quite violently (metaphorically speaking). But we do NOT flag each other for expressing opinions. This is still America. We still have the right to express ourselves, to argue and debate.

You handful of flag happy fools need to take a step back and seriously consider what sort of world you are trying to build. A place where you have the “right” to suppress opposing opinion. A place you love…until the day it is YOUR speech that is suppressed.

It took an English biographer speculating on Voltaire’s frame of mind to produce the sentiment that DEFINES the American 1st Amendment. A sentiment that is fast slipping away from the American left.

“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
