First of all, please ignore the reactionary trolls. None of them are intelligent, none of them are honest, none of them are patriotic, and at this point I’m wondering if any of them are even SANE. They are simply junk people. Second, it wasn’t only patriotic Americans who watched the mob of traitors attempting to overthrow our democracy on January 6th with shock and horror (while having complete and utter contempt for the traitors). No, civilized people of all nations also watched the attempted coup with shock and horror (while having complete and utter contempt for the traitors). The problem is, with the worldwide rise in nationalism, extremism, fascism, and demagoguery, there aren’t enough civilized people to go around…..

Seeing all this from a distance, difficult to fathom patriots trying to institute autocracy as their system of governance… Those crying loudest for freedom are trying to bring about dictatorial controls… Somebody please explain to me how any of this makes any sense — maybe the cold up here has frosted my brain!

Those who fancy themselves as champions of democracy must stay mindful of the fact that Marjorie Taylor Greene was democratically elected with almost 75% of the vote.

Here’s the thinking behind trollish comments. The troll can dash off a quick one-liner — never more than a dozen words, half of them insults — post it in several dozen places, then sit back and watch sane people waste their time composing well-reasoned paragraphs in response. Then the troll might throw another occasional 1-liner into the conversation to spark another spate of time-wasting restatements of obvious facts, cogent logic, and sensible reasoning, with the bonus that some of those will actually quote the troll’s own words, thereby giving them yet another public exposure. The real bonus comes when the trollish comment gets so many responses that it gets promoted to that strip’s “featured comment” of the day, where it’ll be the ONLY one that 98% of the visitors to the strip will ever see.

In the coming year, resolve not to feed the trolls. It only encourages them.

Americans are too lazy to maintain a system of self-government. It was only a matter of time until someone used that against us.
