This “Debt Crisis” is a MYTH! To even attempt to default on our obligations is an unconstitutional act. The GOP only cares about the Constitution when they can weaponize against the Dems, or us, mostly both….
One thing I could never understand—there you are, groaning under a massive debt load, which must, of necessity, keep growing or your house will fall apart and your family starve. So what do you do? Why, give away a huge chunk of your income to a couple of obscenely rich people, of course. Which is, in essence, what the Republicans love to do, with their tax cuts for the super wealthy. And what do they do when the rent comes due? Why, take the money away from the old folks (Social Security), the sick folks (health programs), and the kids (education), of course. Decades before Trump came on the scene, I came to the conclusion that Republicans (at least those enacting policies) were just plain mean-spirited and selfish.
Ho hum, another cliff-hanger debt crisis. Another old rerun on the RNC Channel, garnering residuals each time it’s broadcast: The political equivalent of “Gilligan’s Island” or better, “Flash Gordon.”
On a different note, Bennett draws the most mundane physical objects with admirable accuracy. The drop-shadows from the clippers and wires are nearly perfect. I wonder if he positions similar objects to draw from?
This is not a both sides do it. The Debt ceiling is about paying the bills. There were no debt ceiling issues as the Democrats know it’s bad to default on the loans. Which would only raise the debt further having to renegotiate loans and pay higher interest on those loans, increasing the debt already run up. The most egregious thing about this particular debt ceiling argument is the Republicans are refusing to raise the debt ceiling to pay the debts run up under the Trump administration. The finance shortage caused by giving tax cuts to the wealthy, decreasing our ability to pay the bills.
Republicans are happy to destroy America, as long as it’s good for their bank account.
Oh for heavens sake, government is not your kitchen table. It runs best when money flows. The Republicans know that, but have been willing to perpetuate the foolishness of trickle down economics so they can money-grab all they can, and keep it for themselves. This so-called debt crisis is their doing, and theirs alone. It is time for them to settle up. They do begin to settle up now by passing elimination of debt ceiling AND passing the HR 1 (For the People Act), or they pay in 2022.
Working together for all of the American people has not been part of the Republican agenda since the Nixon administration. None of the government tools — that were designed on the basis of consensus or compromise — are functional now. Yet, though the debt was incurred during the previous administration, the Democrats — as usual — will be blamed.
Congress is for congress and not for WE THE PEOPLE! It’s a tug of war with the parties and their interests come before the good of the nation! I’m sick of The whole thing! I can’t even watch the news anymore. It’s like watching a class of spoiled brats and who can and can’t get their way!
They were elected to represent constituents! and to do what’s best for them. Instead they they all have their own agendas for more power grabs and greed.
There is only a debt crisis because Republicans insist on giving tax cuts to mega corporations and the ultra rich. They ceased being the party of fiscal responsibility some forty years ago.
Never could figure out why there is such angst over the debt ceiling. All that “pork” is going to your sponsors. The only thing I can figure is that the wrong party is getting credit.
The loose screw is Biden, who is supposed to get the parties to work together. The aid to Israel vote showed what he needs to do to get anything done. Stop these huge bills and address one item at a time, and everyone who votes has no excuse to vote against their principles.
Big thing folks forget (and some choose to ignore deliberately) is that the deductiond under Eisenhower’s tax plan were for things that most frequently tended to benefit other people who needed help. And well gosh, the Turd Reich just can’t have that now, can they? And no, Eisenhower didn’t like taxes. But his plan helped. And the wethy nerd to pay more than nothing or only a very small percent. Since they can hire lawyers to find loopholes, just do what Eisenhower did.
I like the analogy of this cartoon. Very good. However, I’m wondering who will place the screw in the cutters so they work?Us the voters? Not together we won’t.It will have to be all left handed voters. No help from the righties. That’s sarcasm by the way.
Unfair. This implies the two sides can’t agree, as if they were both resisting agreement. They’re not. The Democrats are all in favor of raising the debt limit. It is the Republicans who are not only failing to support it, but are actively working against it with the filibuster.

Who knows?
Maybe it will convince Manchin to eliminate the filibuster.
Manchin could even go to Moscow Mitch and tell him to approve raising the debt ceiling, or else.
