Took me three tries to see the Facebook logo there.
I’ll just point out that they are legally entitled to do that, and there are reasonable arguments to be made that they must control illegal speech such as inciting a crime.
Bigmouth was banned because he was trying to instigate a political coup with lies and more inflammatory lies. Otherwise, he could have still been blasting away in capital letters right now. With freedom comes responsibility.
Trump immediately vomited out more lies and groundless accusations against facebook and the review board. He also demanded destruction of the platform because it is “destroying free speech”. I feel like echoing Caiaphas, “Trump doubled down on this canard and thus hoists himself on his own petard! What more proof do we need that he’s incorrigible and therefore deserves a permanent ban from facebook?”
Read an article about the first 100 days. Biden has lied or exaggerated 67 times using same criteria as for the Former Guy. At 100 days, the Former Guy or CheetoJesus had spouted 511.
Funny, Ms. Benson, how state Republican parties and members of the U.S. House are censuring and taking other measures to punish the 10 Republican Representatives who voted their consciences to impeach Herr Gropingfuror. Free speech?
All Lisa needs to do is: change the sign to read, “Right”, the sash to read “Vote Integrity” and have all “white” folks marching by, still on their cell phones. Come on, Lisa, you can do it! Liz Chaney did it, so can you.
Ms Benson, a Trump/GOP Leadershit shill, endorses the Hitler/Goebbels “Big Lie” tactic. Her ongoing political and economic concerns have nothing whatsoever to do with honoring our nation’s political and economic heritage, but with nourishing and fostering political and economic chaos. Benson considers her Machiavellian promotion of the Trump/GOP Leadershit’s relentless quest to destroy our nation is mere collateral damage in her selfish pursuit to improve her financial interests. She doesn’t give a tinker’s damn about the well-being of the nation; she cares ONLY about herself. Fabrication and deceitfulness are her strong points.
The Retaliation Against Facebook by Crybaby Trump and the GOP is Not Just Stupid. IT’S ILLEGAL!
The Board found that…
“…in maintaining an unfounded narrative of electoral fraud and persistent calls to action, Mr. Trump created an environment where a serious risk of violence was possible.” […] “At the same time, the panel found the indefinite suspension inappropriate and asked Facebook over the next six months to review the decision and develop a ‘proportionate response that is consistent with the rules that are applied to other users of its platform.’”
More troubling is Trump’s overt threat that “social media companies must pay a political price.” That is, in itself, an attack on the free speech rights of the businesses that operate social media sites. And it is purely political retaliation for what he imagines is bias against conservatives.
Is there any point at all in explaining how “freedom of speech” applies to governmental restraint and not private companies? I thought Lisa’s bunch were rabidly in favour of the rights of businesses to do their own thing?
For about the millionth time, Lisa, Facebook is a PRIVATE corporation, and thus is not covered by the first amendment freedom of speech. Also, because of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 (CDA), a landmark piece of legislation passed that protects Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and websites from defamation liability for information and comments posted by third parties, they are protected from libel suits, but not for what can be construed as criminal activity. Promoting sedition and insurrection is criminal and is not a protected activity.
If I put a nasty, insulting post here about Lisa Benson or catmom or another one of Lisa’s followers, should it stand? What if it included profanity? What about personal information – what if I could post Benson’s phone number?
So a business is NOT allowed to decide what and who it will allow on its website – even while some of the same people who demand the “right” to abuse the business’s website also threaten to abolish laws that protect that business from liability for the content that the abusers post?
Facebook has never been particularly known for leaning left. But they do have a terms of service and, like any private organization, the right to enforce it.
As those of you who have read my posts know, I am not a mindless supporter of either Mr. Trump or any party. Nevertheless, the vicious derision and shaming of anyone who recognizes that he did some good things is exactly why he was elected in the first place.
For those of you who cannot breathe without shaming anyone who does not agree with your agenda, please know this: YOU created the Trump presidency. The millions you successfully silenced voted for him as a safe way to get back at YOU. It is on YOUR head.
If your party and/or agenda fails at the midterms, you can have the satisfaction of knowing that YOU have made it so. Just because you silence people, it does not mean they will not look for a champion to fight you for them.
S/he does not have to be perfect. S/he only needs to stand up to YOU.
Wasn’t even facebook that did it. It was the folks who FB paid a ton of money to make the decision, and then, basically, told FB to do it themselves. It’s only temporary.
Facebook is a PRIVATE COMPANY not a government entity and can therefore make it’s own rules about what is acceptable “speech”. If the fools actually read the first amendment rather than listening to Republican and Q anon hacks they might learn this. Just as you can’t scream “FIRE” in a crowded theater, companies like schools and other entities can determine what is acceptable within their closed systems. This is perfectly within the law set down by Amendment one. If FB wants to prevent a pathological liar who happens to be a former president from inciting more insurrection with his continuing lies they not only have the right, they have the social and moral obligation to do so. Whining traitors be damned.
If it were Black men spreading the same lies and inciting the same insurrection that the “right” is now doing, Lisa would be calling for summary execution of everyone they could round up.
To all of you“ Grow a pair” (non PC)Would you be so vocal if your name and location were known ???It is so easy to voice your opinion behind the cloche of your nick names The artist has a right to their opinion weather we agree or disagree. Why do you find a need to choose this space to be negative and abusive rather than consider the message of the cartoon as an image of our inability to relate to others opinions How can we be so blind
FYI free speech doesn’t include talking about the trail of tears or how many Black Americans were lynched or about how Asian Americans were robbed of their wealth and locked in prison camps during WW2. Or how white Europeans forced Native Americans off their land. As long as you don’t talk about white colonialism it’s free speech!

Not happening.

But alas, he’s entirely incapable of many things, chief among them is truth telling.
