Is this one of those “only the twelve of you will understand the reference” kinds of things?

My sister has MS. She has more willpower than any other person I know. She can still work and function close to normal despite doubling her weight over the years due to steroids. Hope she doesn’t get confined to a wheelchair – that could be the last straw…

I am confused …

I’m glad there are commenters here who can help me understand the more erudite episodes.

A little too cerebral for me…moving on.

And the second quote is from Cormac McCarthy’s BLOOD MERIDIAN:“The universe is no narrow thing and the order within it is not constrained by any latitude in its conception to repeat what exists in one part in any other part. Even in this world more things exist without our knowledge than with it and the order in creation which you see is that which you have put there, like a string in a maze, so that you shall not lose your way. For existence has its own order and that no man’s mind can compass, that mind itself being but a fact among others.”

From today’s comments, it would seem Caufield is right.

Too narrow! Too narrow! My universe is too narrow!

I recognized both quotes but not where they are from. I have seen his work but not read it and I don’t usually know who wrote the movies I have seen.

I originally wrote hardly ever but then I remembered Clancy, Grisham, Rawlings, Tolkien, Shakespeare, Lovecraft, and other authors whose writings I have both read and seen the movies.

I’m glad that these two are gaining rapport. Started out a bit rocky.

Thanks to the commenters. While I knew of one of McCarthy’s works, interesting to know of his span of work.

That said, Mallett needn’t go to such consistent extremes to come across as… erudite.

He was polite yesterday in my opinion, but asking someone what their disability is, well, that just isn’t a polite thing to do. Even so, these two are great together!

Look Cormac up on Amazon books. You’ll find several.

I like to pick an author & read their whole catalog in chronological order; I’d been wondering to to hit when I finish Jim Butcher. I think Cormak will get a try.

And Miss Plainwell has probably wandered off in search of a daisy to sniff. (Of course, this being Frazz, she wouldn’t settle for the nearest one but will instead run half a mile over and back to get that one on top of the nearby hill.)

Didn’t get me looking him up. The punchline is clear enough even if you know nothing about McCarthy or those quotes.

I will watch this new character with interest. I had an all too intimate relationship with MS for 22 years, until my husband passed away.

Meanwhile, Ms. Plainwell seems to have disappeared. Was this a setup, to get these two acquainted with each other?

Frazz 17 hrs · That “… till the mess gets here” line is from No Country for Old Men, and might as well be the thesis statement of the book. Hell, the thesis statement for our times.
