One of Mike’s best ever. Gives me goosebumps. Yes indeed, “BLACK LIVES MATTER” on all counts.
I notice that, as they put the cuffs on Chauvin(ist) and led him out, he no longer had that smug “I can get away with murder and nothing you can do about” smirk on his sorry-ass face.
We can now exhale.
Sadly, we cannot breathe for George Floyd, or all the other victims of police murders of UNARMED BLACK VICTIMS.
As Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison stated, justice would be to have George Floyd back.
We can never get true justice in this case, but we can get ACCOUNTABILITY.
They didn’t, actually. What they found was the Chauvin committed the crimes with which he was charged. All three of them.
It’s important not to read this as a sweeping change. It IS an unusual result, and I hope it brings a bit more justice to the system by its example, but it’s just one trial in one location. Once.
My relatives, some of which are Native Americans, had depressingly racist views on the verdict and BLM in general. They felt that Floyd’s family profitted from his murder and that BLM was only a way to “get free stuff” from the Government through protest. And that Chauvin didn’t intend to start his day murdering Floyd, but has a tough and often dangerous job, so yeah, “bad stuff” happens. I also heard from them that Native Americans were treated worse than Blacks, but kept their mouths shut and built casinos to help raise themselves up economically. I was, as usual, called an endless litany of foul names when I tried to explain that police must be held accountable for their actions regardless of their work environment. “All lives matter” don’t, if some matter more than others. Native Americans were given limited sovereignty by the SCOTUS, which allowed them to bypass state laws and build casinos. However, you’d find a large share of the profits going to white owned casino developers and operators. None of my Tribal relatives get enough from the casino to quit their jobs or even get basic health care. I am typically shunned at all family gatherings for my “radical” views of how deeply ingrained racism is in America and that Native Americans are not the “winners” in the race to the bottom of worst treatment. As long as imagined superiority is determined by skin color, culture, and religion, everyone loses.
" Now, gentlemen, in this country, our courts are the great levelers. In our courts, all men are created equal. I’m no idealist to believe firmly in the integrity of our courts and of our jury system – that’s no ideal to me. That is a living, working reality!" Atticus Finch (as portrayed by Gregory Peck) from To Kill a Mockingbird; screenplay by Herman Foote based upon Harper Lee’s novel ( A Pakula-Mulligan, Brentwood Productions Picture – 1962).
And let’s have a hearty round of applause and well deserved thanks to Darnella Frazier, the teenage girl who recorded that entire unforgettable scene, without which YouKnowWho might still be walking the streets of Minneapolis today, terrorizing citizens.

What surprises me is that a number of republicans are saying that the jury did a good job.

I’m still having a hard time understanding why there wasn’t a 1st Degree Murder Charge. I call 9 1/2 minutes on his neck premeditated!!!

It would be great if this was the actual start of the US returning to core values of equal justice/opportunities for all.

We will go through this again when we see the terms of his sentencing. I doubt that it will be severe.

He and others must have done two or three versions for this day. It would be interesting to see the cartoons drawn for an innocent verdict.

So long as it necessary to mention color.. we/you will continue to have a problem.

Given the weak case presented by the prosecution, Chauvin most certainly would have be acquitted in, say, Mississippi.

I see F KKKarlson throws a fit with his rant about the jury was too scared to acquit. It’s about what I expected from a devout racist POS.

Slight grammatical correction here: “We, the jury, find that at least one Black life mattered.”
No opinion on any of the others.

I hope the name of George Floyd echoes down thru the centuries and that the name of the asshole who murdered him never passes human lips again.

Well, at least they were able to say that one did.
