While the food may not be toxic, Calvin eating so quickly could lead to a toxic disaster in the bathroom.

That only worked on my kid once. And we wasted it on brussels sprouts. But sanity prevailed. We used the “no thank you helping”. He WOULD eat some of everything we served, but it could be almost arbitrarily small if he really objected. And every so seldom, he actually found out he liked something. Seems to have worked: He now eats and enjoys a wider range of food than I do.

This is one of my favorites. So essentially Calvin.

I wonder whether Calvin is a picky eater or, like my 9 year old, autistic with food sensitivities (even if Watterson didn’t intend to draw him that way)

Dad is treading a pretty fine line there, referring to Mum’s food as toxic waste.

If Calvin’s dad gets the young lad to eat his vegetables and not be picky about dinner with a little storytelling, that is actually inspired parenting.

Everyone should have one food that they absolutely refuse to eat, just as a matter of principle. For me it’s beets.

To this day, if I ever have to take a pain reliever or something I soon find myself saying “Ahhhh..I can feel it working..”

Nope Mom, you have to beat him at his own game. I just wonder why Dad didn’t use this sort of tactic more often.
