Wait, no wine?? For how long????

JJ sprang a new one on me here. I did some digging and found there are no bans in effect but this is from an article in Forbes:

Last fall, a Russian scientist, Anna Popova, caused a minor stir when she recommended that Russians quit drinking alcohol two weeks before their vaccine shot, and then three weeks after the second. New Scientist interviewed another Russian scientist, who also said he “strongly recommends refraining from alcohol for three days after each injection.”

The thinking is based on scientific literature that links excess alcohol use with a lowered immune system. Immunologist Eleanor Riley from the University of Edinburgh told New Scientist, “Heavy drinkers have many problems and poor immune function is one of them.

Both are over 65¿

Not getting an experimental vaccine… nope, not me… not going to be a guinea pig for anyone or any institution.

They can also take those vaccine passports and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine.

That way your body can be a living laboratory growing variants. Stay away from my grandchildren.

And once again the goal posts are moved. Now even when vaccinated you are to wear a mask. Even though 13 months ago there was no science and few experts behind masking the general public. Now, with a years worth of data showing, worldwide, that masking the public has had not positive effect at all, they are doubling down on masks.

I have a glass of wine at night before bed, and wasn’t told of any issue with the vaccination. I had no problems at all.

Bearing in mind what Russians call drinking, we call stumbling drunk.

Even though I’ve gotten both shots I’m still staying home, so I won’t have to miss drinking beer any time I want to. We’re not out of the woods yet!

Yipe! I didn’t think about this and had a small glass of wine at each of our two Passover seders this past weekend. Luckily, I’ve had no side effects since my first shot on Friday.

If you drink enough, you won’t care about getting the vaccine.

No one will get close enough to us to infect us in the first place! Is there anyone NOT eligible to get a vaccine now? I received my 2nd shot about a month ago.

There are a lot of jokes and memes about drinking wine. After the vaccine, a lot of people will need help with their overuse of alcohol.

You can drink wine anytime, even without a pandemic. Just ask a wino…

These comments are a tangent to the question of what driinking has to do with the vaccine. So the first comment was on target. FYI, my brother got a “Chinese” vaccine that required no drinking for 20 days after and then another shot. So ponder that.

Get the shot. You can be part of the solution or you can be part of the problem.

This isn’t about wine & the vaccine; it’s about being able to be out & about safely and re-entering a more normal routine after the vaccine.

I had the same thought about having to put on “outside” clothes again.

What does drinking wine have to do with getting the vaccine?

We had one sign up option which said if you accepted the appointment for the vaccine, you had to be there in 15 minutes.

Idiots……..

Good luck with that. The county executive in out portion of the state keeps calling us, telling us to get our appointments, that we’re doing so god in the battle, etc, etc. There isn’t an appointment to be had easily or close to home. If you want to take your life in your hands for other reasons, there might be a few appointments somewhere, but as older people, we’re not willing to take chances.

It should be easy.

it’s is only for 3 days after each vaccine. when the 3 days are done you can celebrate with a special dte night, wine included!!!!

There is no restriction with drinking before the vaccine, the only thing I have read is to avoid tyenonl and anti inflammatory and NSAID’s for a day before, which I got my first dose on Monday and I had a toothache that was giving me a migraine on Sunday night and I couldn’t take anything for it which was a pain but it was worth it to get the vaccine. I get my second dose mid April.

Covid isolation has had some silver linings…drinking more wine was not one of them for me, but zoom concerts with folk artists who no longer come to my area definitely was.

Here there are several different vaccine systems, state has locations, county has locations, some chain pharmacy locations & some doctors offices in large shared facilities of hospital systems. Each separate signups.

When we became eligible husband went to sign us up. Had figured county location at nearby community college open 24 hours would be good as we are night people (1:45 am as I write this and will not go to bed until around 4 am). That page was always “error 405” they only opened for a day and when full, this was posted. State system was booked 3 months in advance. When one to check for appointments one had to fill in form and then check and find out none – next time had to fill in info again. If one did somehow get appointment – then one had to start all over for spouse or other eligible in household and of course the appointments would not be same time or day if one could get the other appointment. No pharmacies at that time.

My niece, a substitute teacher in her 30s made her appointments at pharmacy chain when it opened up. She and many other people have been helping people make appointments. After over 65 opened they add, among others, obese people. She got appointments for her parents and younger brother as same (tho last time saw nephew he was not). We were still trying and waiting and over 65.

Husband finally tried the pharmacy chain she had used – no luck, tried the other one everyone talked about – no luck. All were booked for months. The husband read of another pharmacy chain with vaccine and tried it – following Thursday we went in and first shots. This past Thursday we had the second ones and are waiting out our 2 weeks. No crowds, they even automatically made our second appointments – like a dream. Some friends went last weekend to a state site – stood in line 2 hours – after driving 2 counties away.

As I understand the report, it’s chronic heavy drinkers who can have a problem, because their abuse can have damaged their immune system.

I.e., simply stopping for a few days won’t help, and if you’re not already in that class, a bit of light drinking — even on the day you get your shot — won’t hurt.
