And Dr. Mel is appropriately wearing gloves to cover his fingerprints.

The IRS is always seen as the villain. However, does anyone wonder how and why Dr. Mel came to owe $10,000? Considering his past activities, Dr. Mel is hardly above being a tax cheat.

Never thought I’d wear a mask to the bank. Especially after my grandfather’s experience……

Sounds like they want Dr. Mel to use the new Form 1040-SuperEZ. “Line 1: How much did you make last year? Line 2: Send it in.”

I’m a fan of taxes and pay mine willingly, even cheerfully. I would pay them even more cheerfully if I could trust the money would be spent as I choose rather than as major corporations choose. Maybe we can create an “opt-out” feature where you get to choose three areas of the budge that your money WON’T go toward, and three things your tax money WILL guaranteed go toward. Fanciful, I know, but fun to contemplate. There are quite a few things I don’t like funding, and others I’d like to see get more.

Here the IRS is confronting a criminal, yet they are portrayed as THE criminals. Somethings very wrong here.

I understand why Dr Mel would owe $10,000. But when are you going to collect the Billions in misappropriated and squandered tax dollars for all the stupid experiments he has done???

The IRS will allow you, even work with you, to make a payment arrangement that you can afford and help you stick with it. They would rather people pay their taxes than rot in prison for not paying.

Dr Mel has the additional issue of making money outside the country. Unless the station is in geostationary orbit above the US, he only spends a few minutes a day, if that, over the US. Then the issue of the station being a classified (Special Compartmented Information) project that the government publicly denies. So, unless the IRS agent is “read on” to that project, the other part of the government which actually operates the station will deny everything, putting him in hot water for unaccounted foreign income, which he cannot prove is legitimate. A simple $10k fine would be the least of his worries.

The IRS would never phrase it that way.

They say: “Hand it over, Please” because the “hand it over” part is the important part of the sentence.
