We have always had predatory banks and lenders. As Woody Guthrie once sang, “Some men will rob you with a six-gun, and others with a fountain pen.”

At the time, I just assumed (entitlement?) it was normal, but I am SOOOO thankful that I got scholarships to cover my tuition. I was EXTREMELY blessed.

Nothing like debt to bring together members of the educated class. That second job prevents them from having time to revolt.

I worked to pay my way through three college degrees and that of my ex. Any small loans were paid off within a year of getting full time professional employment. Those bills came first. When necessary, I worked full time and went to school part time for a while to keep up our bills. I believe that interest is for earning, not paying.

Have to laugh at MOST of the comments, they blame either the school or the banks, but never themselves. One thing that would fix a lot of this is denial of loans for degrees that have next to none potential for earnings.

If Nana and Poppa are STILL paying off THEIR student loans, they need a new financial advisor!!!

Bullshit. Nana and Poppa coasted their white asses by on the G.I. Bill. People from that generation don’t have a clue what hardship is, not compared to the crushing despair and hopelessness young people nowadays face from the world Nana and Poppa created for them.
