Judges who call themselves “pro-life” issue rulings that allow churches to kill people by the tens of thousands. There is not a shred of Christian decency or morality in any of these hypocrites.

The current collection of Supremes believe (despite what they say, it DOES matter) that “freedom of religion” means that religions are special  organizations that have all kinds of rights that normal ones don’t have. Including the magical property that people (and their organizations) can claim discriminatory behavior is “religious” and then, (if the Supremes agree that it’s a “true” religion) the discrimination is legal. So, if that’s the case, what’s a little manslaughter thrown into the mix?

Their imaginary being is supposedly omnipresent, but they have to clump together to get their indoctrination fix while risking theirs and other peoples lives. It shows how their beliefs are always on shaky ground.

Can we start taxing churches again. There is nothing in the constitution about not taxing churches. The agreement for Churches to not pay taxes was they were to stay out of politics. Since they haven’t been able to do that, it’s time to start taxing again. Not to mention redirect any public school funds from private church schools back to the public schools where they should be used in the first place. No vouchers either.

That Supreme Court ruling is murderous and disgusting.

But I’m not sure what legal thinking was behind it.

Because on Friday they rejected a petition from a Louisiana pastor [Tony Spell] who sought emergency relief from criminal charges he faced for holding services in violation of large-gathering restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic. So why this if that?

    ???

As an anarchist, I look at religion and see that individual religious feelings and expression of those feelings is sometimes good, sometimes bad, just as most things are. I’ve seen a lot of good done by individuals who are religious.I also see that religious institutions are prone to the same kinds of abuses of power as most institutions. I’m not sure what good religious institutions do for individuals expressing their religious feelings.

Actions based upon “sincere and deeply held religious beliefs”* are now USSC legally justified/sanctioned. As a result of this despicable and idiotic ruling the Court may well get the opportunity to rule, in the not too distant future, on criminal charges brought against True Christian™ defendants convicted of more serious violations of local ordinances and other statutes, using belief as their defense, than refusing to provide wedding cakes to non-heterosexual citizens.

*only as if/when said beliefs exactly match those of the Supreme Court Catholic Six

The political tools who call themselves “Pro-Life” are nothing of the sort. They are anti-abortion, but most of them also support capital punishment, horrible treatment of the poor and needy, and war.

If you’re going to be consistent, you need to be anti-war, anti-capital punishment, anti-abortion, and support helping the poor. Pope Francis has also added support for Black Lives Matter and working to address global warming…

During the years of the Black Plague, going to church meant even more opportunities to share the plague, in close quarters. But hey, only about 1/3 of the population died. Obviously, all that praying helped…

It is not a judge’s duty to determine what is right or wrong, good or bad, up or down. It is their job to administer the law and if the law allows (as it does) people to freely congregate in the practice of their religion and spread the SARS COV-2 virus then they hove no discretion but to apply the law. Even when the law is WRONG!!!

Time to TAX THE CHURCHES, since they are NOW nothing but Political Action Groups! And the taxes should be made RETROACTIVE to the date that they were granted tax-exempt status! Let’s see the Catholic Cult cough up a few BILLION $$ in back Property Taxes! Same for the Mormons and the Baptists… and the rest of the bunch!

    @guy42:

People are, in fact, only allowed to freely congregate when they present no danger or possibility of danger to others.

What, for example, are curfews for?

Even “free congregations” can require permits.

While the church-goers may have a right to worship, it does not mean that they have the right to spread disease.

Suppose a group of people decide that the virus is their God’s way of collecting souls for its war against Evil. Their duty is to help increase the number of souls for an upcoming Battle Against Evil. So they must expose themselves to the virus and then go about embracing and kissing other people, whether they are believers are not. When ordered to stop, they proclaim that this is their religion and you are denying them the proper expression of their worship.

Would any rational court accept that the right of a few outweighs the rights of the many?

Only an irrational court would do so.
