Geographic has a big article with reminiscences from people who survived WWII. One is from a German woman who goes to schools in Germany and tells the students what life was like before, during and after. She’s upset that Neo-Nazis are on the rise again, not only in Germany but also here in the US. He didn’t start them up but tRump is responsible for their coming out of the dark where they were conceived.
In one of Uncle John’s Bathroom Readers, he lists “What Have We Learned, Charlie Brown?” as one of the worst Peanuts specials of all time. I beg to differ.
I live almost within sight of the D-Day Memorial. Used to take my nephew every year for the remembrances. My health keeps me from doing that anymore, but oh man, seeing the rapidly dwindling numbers of D-Day veterans every year was very sobering. I don’t know if they’re doing anything up there this year, what with the state of things.
Unfortunately, during recent Riots in D.C. , the “Protesters” decided that the National WWII Memorial was a place on which to spray obscene graffiti … appalling.
I’ve seen Omaha Beach and what remains of its defenses. It was obviously suicide to attempt to get across it that morning. Those kids knew it, they went anyway.
Just finished re-reading Bill Mauldin’s “Up Front” time to quaff down that root beer. Next comes Ernie Pyle’s “Here Is Your War.” The sacrifices were were world wide.
Ironically I had a very strong compunction yesterday to watch the Band of Brothers documentary We Stand Alone Together. I’d competely forgotten until just now what today was, at least conciously. Subconciously, I must have realized it yesterday, which explains the compunction.

For those who wish to learn more, Cornelius Ryan’s “The Longest Day” remains the classic popular book. Comprehensive, readable, and available.

76 years later. We could not untie nations again do this again today.
You have to admire Eisenhour for pulling it off and even more for his willingness to take full responsibility had it failed. That’s what leaders do.
