The economy killed coal jobs. They’ve been dying for a generation or two. And they deserve to die. They’re dangerous, dirty, don’t pay enough for the risk involved. And are part of the climate problem. And of course the owners are the only real beneficiaries of continued coal extraction.

Remember the old Guthrie refrain (I think it was):

The owners get the money and the workers get the shaft!

Vote the Rump, he killed the environment. He killed damning stories about his affairs. He killed investigations over his corruption. He killed children.

Progress killed coal jobs…Oh right, Payne hates progress.

As for Soleimani, we’re still waiting for the legal justification for his murder.

If we could travel back to 1923, coal mining jobs would be abundant.

Payne is a lot like Trump. He can’t tell his butt from a hole in the ground either. That’s why they are both such poor golfers. An oldie but a goodie.

The irony is the 2020 slogan for Ol’ Punkinhead. I quote it here without beeps and redactions: “TRUMP 2020. NO MORE BULLSHIT.” This is what the GOP has fallen to. Would that the Democrats scrap their minor differences (LGQT vs straight, white vs black, gentile vs jew, male vs female, etc., etc.) and then unify against this existential GOP threat against all of us — including Ol’ Punkinhead’s minions and wishful thinking blinded supporters. Yes Virginia, it CAN happen here.

The low cost of natural gas and oil, FRACKING killed coal jobs.

Why don’t you cry about what killed whale oil lamps? Or how electricity killed the wood stove industry? It makes about as much sense.

Payne, you don’t HELP anyone. Your lies only make things worse. You’re busy wrongly blaming Biden, while Trump is murdering in our name. You’re like one of those old Soviet propaganda writers who deliberately, knowingly lied to the ignorant, uneducated masses.

    For shame.

I’m taking the electric car into town to run some errands. When I get back I am going to plug it in and let the electricity from the solar panels charge it up. Eat my electrons Henry.

What a bunch of bull. There are only 150,000 mining jobs in the US and surface mining made underground mining obsolete decades ago. Coal companies are going bankrupt to avoid paying pensions and cleanup costs. And the amount of power generated by coal has been decreasing for years. Every other energy source is cheaper, cleaner, and easier to deploy. Guess this guy would be okay with a government subsidized buggy whip factory, too. Amazing how all these “free market” types become socialists when it suits them.

Trump-“I like the challenge and tell the story of the coal miner’s son. The coal miner gets black-lung disease, his son gets it, then his son. If I had been the son of a coal miner, I would have left the damn mines. But most people don’t have the imagination—or whatever—to leave their mine. They don’t have ‘it.’” (Playboy, March 1990)

Like Donald, Hank never lets the truth get in the way. Between Reagan and Obama coal mining jobs fell from 200k to 80k. The decline did stay flat in 2017, but again more jobs were lost in 2018 and 2019 as a record number of utilities abandoned coal [https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2019-10-31/coal-consumption-keeps-dropping-under-trump-coal-jobs-will-too]

I think it pretty sad that killing “anyone” becomes a matter of pride.. a trophy to be mounted in a man cave. Justice needs to be sober.. not something to draw cheering crowds like public hangings.. burning at the stake.. guillotines..

this is based on the alternate reality that coal jobs are still alive. where as a few days ago, miners stopped a train carrying coal again due to a lack of pay. Once again, support for Trump has to be based on lies.

That is hilarious considering how many major coal companies have filed for bankruptcy in the last two years. Five in Colorado and Wyoming alone. At least the last administration (and even the one before it) pushed new energy technologies as a replacement and created an entirely new industry.

Really? I haven’t noticed a boom in coal jobs the last three years. Coal jobs are still dying across the country along with many other jobs and businesses as result of Trump’s trade war with China, Europe, Canada, and Mexico. Carrier plant in Indiana still laid off people. Harley Davidson shut down a plant in KC and transferred manufacturing overseas. Corporations got tax cuts and still laid off millions of Americans replacing them with technology. But yeah, Biden as VP under Obama boasted renewable energy sector growth creating jobs to replace coal. Facts do matter, dude. #FactsMatter

Economics killed the coal jobs, if it made sense for power plants to run on coal they would. What the govt. needs to need is provide training and create opportunities that actually have a future.

I’m 100% behind someone that kills coal jobs… they need to be killed.

Granted, we should be supportive of the employees and make sure there is some plan to help them move forward when the industry dies, but the industry needs to die.

A number of years ago there was a TV sketch (I don’t remember whether it was SNL or some other show) about a Texas DA race where the only issue was which candidate would execute the most convicts fastest: “I’m going to execute so many criminals we’ll need a conveyor belt into the gas chamber!” “Well, I’M going to execute so many we’ll need to annex Oklahoma to bury them all!”

There’s no question that plays to a certain segment of the electorate…
