Back in the early 70’s, My brother and I would take turns staying at night with our grandmother who lived in this ancient two story duplex. In the Winter, the ONLY heat in the house came from a wood stove in the front room downstairs. The only “heat” you had upstairs was getting under a whole bunch of blankets. ALL of the bedrooms were upstairs. Grandma was in her 80’s then. And she would always INSIST on fixing Us a good old fashioned country breakfast in the morning. Fond Memories.

But No Central heating. No thermostats and Central Air was but a dream. And NOW? We can’t “live” without ’em, cranked up to the Max.

I’m speaking just for Me here. But MAYBE, We’ve gotten ‘Soft.’

Even if the US could go to ZERO CARBON OUTPUT this year, it would do NOTHING to reduce global warming because of CHINA, INDIA and a bunch of other countries putting out 3 times what we do now — and THEIR output is climbing rapidly.

Global warming is a hoax. I wish I had invested in wind generators and solar panels and alcohol for gas and I could also be a millionaire. But I did get an electric car. It hauls the two of us and our golf clubs.

Last poll I read Americans were only willing to spend one dollar a month. The temperature rise in the last 70 years, took 70,000 years, before humans got enrolled I live in Florida where the state is very vulnerable. Instead of a peninsula the state would become an extension of the Bahamas and you could take a cruise ship to visit Disney World

Polar bear numbers are steady and 3-4 times their numbers in 70’s.https://fee.org/articles/the-myth-that-the-polar-bear-population-is-declining/

Oh yeah and a couple of more: any global warming is natural and central control by UN and the left won’t change that…but it will enrich them in power and spread money to their corrupt friends.

Let see you need to turn down your thermostat and freeze to prevent global warming which if it happens you wouldn’t need the furnace at all there by why turn it down.

Climate Change is happening now and is driven by humans burning millions of years of accumulated carbon in only a few decades, significantly raising CO2 level which traps heat in our atmosphere. We have passed the “tipping point”, Climate Change will continue to get worse. Vast populations will be displaced, partly due to rising sea levels, and as those people seek new lands to live on there will be conflicts and wars. Now is a good time to focus on mitigating this looming catastrophe, mainly by avoiding petroleum energy. Green energy industry will provide many jobs and a better environment. Fossil fuel corporate interests dispute this and supply obfuscating propaganda to encourage doubt. China is largest contributor to greenhouse gases, followed by USA, EU, and Russia, in that order.

As an astronomer, I believe that before proselytizing on “Global Warming” learn something about it first. Check out the Youtube channel “SuspiciousObservers”. They have a number of tutorials explaining what they are talking about and show evidence, with proof from official government agencies that show how you are being lied too about this topic. It’s all about money, and how to take it from you and me.

We always did this to keep the cost of heating and cooling down. Since When did it become a way to save the planet? We always lower the temperature in winter and raise it in the summer. Plus, we have an energy efficient house and a natural gas fireplace for supplemental heat. That, plus if our utility company is using as many renewables as they claim (and charging us extra for) that should put us far ahead of doing our part. Stay comfortable everyone. Hope we get an early Spring.

I’d be more worried about the light bill than climate change. The National Weather Service suggests thermostats be set at 68 in the winter, 78 in the summer, to keep comfortable and energy costs low.

I remember when Jimmy Carter suggested to set the thermostat to 65 degrees Fahrenheit in order to save energy. I suggested that to my biological father and he yelled “Who listens to Jimmy the Jerk?” Today my mother and I have it set to 65 both at home and at the print shop we run.

Solar activity is at historic lows. Major volcanic activity is dumping billions of tons of sun blocking particulates into the air. The 2019 soybean and corn harvests were fractions of other years. Coronavirus is growing unchecked in China. At the end of March there will be millions infected. Worry about your carbon footprint. It is the least of your worries.

If it gets that cold in my house, I’ll light the fireplace.

Luckily, one of the trees in my yard drops dead branches all the time, so I don’t even need to Buy firewood.

Weird tree. It grows new branches to replace the ones it drops and just keeps on chugging along. It’s apparently Normal for that variety of tree.

69 F might not be too bad in daytime. But at night, the thermostat should be turned up, not down, because it is colder at night and your dormant self is more vulnerable to temperature change. I do not understand people who think they should turn their heat down at night for the colder weather, though I know this is not uncommon behavior….
