What a lot of people don’t realize is that the famous song from Pinocchio was never meant to be taken literally. It’s meant to be about holding onto hope, not waiting for stuff you want to come to you.
You remember in The Princess and the Frog when Tiana’s father said the star would only take her part of the way there? That’s what happened in Pinocchio. Geppetto wished for Pinocchio to be a real boy, and the Blue Fairy brought him to life…but he was still made of wood, and he didn’t become a real boy until the very end of the film when he sacrificed himself to earn his reward.
Well, whenever a sales person asks me what they can get for me, I always tell the $1 million. Hasn’t happened yet. The best they tell me is that it’s hard to get and is on backorder and that they’ve got dibs. Otherwise they’ll tell me the price is $1.5 million.
This 2005 Disney World commercial always reminded me of this particular strip; I always pictured the way Calvin says the classic line in the first panel being in the same manner Jiminy Cricket starts to say it… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXAzBiigEGk
Cliff Ukulele Ike Edwards sang that one. He was one of Walt’s vaudeville favorites. He was the voice of Jiminy Cricket, Doc, and a bunch of others. In his private life Edwards liked women, drinking, and gambling more than anything else. One of my role models. Really great pro uke player too.

Not so fast, Calvin. You didn’t specify cash on hand. Maybe it’s in a bank account somewhere.
