Wally: That wasn’t God, it was Aaron Marx!

Crow: Same difference… would you like a lollypop?

This may be One. The entity that took control of Jim. Wonder if he’ll ask Wally about Teacher. Just because this place is called Eden doesn’t mean it’s not one step from Hell.

Reminds me of a snatch of dialog from “When Things Were Rotten”: “You can tell that to your creator!” “Mel, I’m innocent!”

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Aaron Neathery is the God, here.

To me, it makes the most sense. We are all higher-dimensional beings compared to the Endtowners. None more so than their Creator, Neathery. We’re third-dimensional, they are second-dimensional. Think of what fourth-dimensional beings would be like to us. What they could see, or do, or influence, or create?

    - There was no mutagenic virus: Neathery needed a catalyst for his stories.

    - Why do the characters end up in the shapes they do: Neathery wants to draw a cat, or a mouse, or a lizard.

    - Who is Aaron Marx: A lower-dimensional projection of Neathery himself, with whatever abilities and powers he wants in order to directly communicate with his creations. It’s brilliant.

This is my opinion, and in my years of reading Endtown, I’ve seen nothing to refute it, only reinforced.

Our thoughts keep going to Marx, but he is not the only dimensional traveler, we don’t know why but Professor Drake even recognized an interdimensionmeter on sight, how did he come to that knowledge? We know that Holly has the capacity, to cross dimensional boundaries, she may have even inherited some of her own Marxian tricks. We know from early visits to the Oracle, others have had access, knowledge if the Oracle wished to impart it, where would that lead them?

I’m really liking this guy already. If the person you’re talking to asks you a question, you give them an answer. If they don’t like that one you give them a different one. Repeat until you find something they do like. And then, everyone’s happy.

When he said he could smell God on him, I thought of Marx and his cigars. Cigar odors carry for a good distance. :o)
