when my late mother and I used to have a cat in the car with us just for the ride, it would howl… my interpretation being it was thinking we were taking to the vet, but it wasn’t for the cat wasn’t in the carrier

Hopefully, Puddles is wearing a harness! The way Luann was pulling the leash hard, Puddles would have suffocated wearing a collar leash! I couldn’t tell because it looks like the collar or harness is removed in the last panel.

For such a little dog, he seems to have pretty powerful grip if it takes Luann that much effort to get him out of the car.

It would be funny if Luann was meeting Tara and Tara’s dog at the park. Luann and Tara would jog around, talking about some new thing they were going to try (instead of archery, maybe karate?), while the two dogs fall in love…

Well I said I would not predict until we know more, and we know that Jack goes to the dog park also. So it makes sense to think that Jack might be there. If that happens then what? Or could it be something completely different? 50/50.

For my “Binger” Australian Cattle Dog it’s the S-word (“squirrel”) you must not speak around him, else it’s like holding a lit match to an open gas tank filler. He’s so smart I’m worried he might see this comment ;-)

I once called the vets office to make a same-day appointment, within earshot of the cat/patient. I ended up having to cancel that appointment, and learned a valuable lesson: either make sure the cat can’t hear you when making a near-term appointment, or make sure the cat is confined doesn’t have access to any good escape routes or hiding places. Oh. And never underestimate your Cat’s understanding of key words and ability to put 2 and 2 together!

Good Lord, look at the size of that Purse! One could carry several changes of clothes, multiple weapons of choice, food for a month, a nightstick, plans for the allied invasion of Europe, and a laptop and STILL have plenty of room left over! That “satchel” must weight a ton!

So today we learned that not only are Luann’s standards of “exciting fun” insanely low, but she has the upper-body/core strength than a 5-year-old. And apparently the intelligence of one, since there’s no reason to spend time struggling with the leash of a dog you can simply scoop up with one hand.

Tiffany’s still on the outs with her dad, Shannon’s been dumped on Brad and Toni by her flake of a father, Gunther’s dealing with the idea of living with Les long-term, and we get a Puddles story arc?

My dogs have always loved going to the Vet. With all of that attention, who wouldn’t? They never seem to remember pokes or operations. Each of my cats has been progressively more difficult. Since this cat doesn’t like to leave the front door, it’s impossible. 6 broken appointments was our record.

Several commenters chose Greg for the gag about the effort to pull Puddles out of the car. It’s called suspension of disbelief for comedic effect. It’s like the Roadrunner not falling until he realizes that he is no longer standing on the ground.

Well. We were promised a grand new adventure for Luann yesterday. It may stretch out for two or three more days before we get to see what it might be.

I predict we will see a couple of “Puddles-at-the-dog park” gags first. (maybe)

Okay, so either a new dog park or they simply have not been there in a while. With Puddles not seeming to recognize the smells either he panics and stays panicked easily or this is a park he is not familiar with, or perhaps people are not supposed to think of how a dog perceives things where the scents would have more importance than a word.

PUDDLES, calm down! It is just a new dog park to you, which is why you do not know the smell, but if you go in maybe you will see a dog blowing BUBBLES:

Puddles can tell where he is by the smell as soon as the car door opens. He must not like the dog park for some reason. He is still scared in the last panel.

I am really appreciating how many people today know that it is the SMELL that would matter to Puddles.

As locake mentioned it could be that Puddles had a bad dog park experience. I hope not, and I hope that this week will not see a dog fight.

I hope that instead it is just that this is one of several dog parks in their large town (university and community college so the place must have grown since Luann first went into junior high. (I grew up in an area which exploded in population during my childhood and youth for two reasons: one was the addition of a major university in what had been farm and nearby fields and woods, and the other was the electrification of a hefty chunk of the train line so that places which had not been city bedroom communities entered that category.)

Puddles is looking nervous and is clinging to Luann like a desperate little pup. Will Luann live up to that trust? Luann, the attention deficit, easily distracted, unfocused, undependable 19 year old going on 14? I doubt it. Just keep Puddles safe.
