Wasn’t it Bobby Brady that had the washer nearly drown him in bubbles? After rescuing a cat in his suit… all for a cute girl.
Leslie could learn a lesson about that, while he has already helped Tiffany, he needs to do some more for her, and be kinder to Gunther rather than reverting to his prior bad behavior.
I think Ma Berger believes everybody should have their happy button on all the time – no matter what. She’s aware that Gunth & Les never liked each other – why don’t they simply turn on their happy button – I mean look at this nice new house we provided for you boys! She has no clue that Gunther would probably rather live in a tent at this point.
I’ll answer for you Gunther. “NO,” Irma Gunther ain’t “Happy” you Clueless Dingbat. And if he said He wasn’t Happy, would YOU do anything about it?
And Al’s just gonna fly the lads out to Vegas to see the two “Love Monkeys” get hitched then fly ‘em right back to Pitts so Les can commence to Torture Gunther? Gee what “fun” and a colossal WASTE of airfare.
Not mention missed opportunity with a Gunther and Les Vegas adventure.
Worked in a small restaurant and on occasion ran the dishwasher. The silverware soaked in a pail of straight detergent. One night it was so busy the owner told me to bus tables and he would wash the dishes. He poured the pail of silverware into the machine. The suds almost took over the kitchen, LOL! One of the best jobs I ever had.
Truly, I hope this arc ends today… Go back to Tiff or Brad/Toni, PLEASE! More importantly, I hope Gunther wakes up and gets out of that environment! Go live with Tiff or rent the Horner House from the DeGroots once Brad/Toni build their own place. ANYTHING! Just don’t stay in that one. It will be bad for your health… on several different levels!
Awhile ago I predicted Al & Irma would leave on an extended honeymoon and be brought back irregularly. Les has been (emotionally) stripped from his mother, Tiff from her father (emotionally), and now Gunther will be from his mother.
Looks like the strip is heading toward two threads. A Gunther/Tiff/Les “trials & tribulations of young adults in conflict” thread and a “Luann meets the world” thread. Interaction points being the Fuse and the two colleges.
It also seems as thought Luann will be meeting her new world with a new BFF in Tara Starr? No one has expredded concern about Bernice since her Piro fling. Pru is seriously fading into the background with Luann and Fay taking over the theater thread.
Looks like big changes ahead as the strip morphs from GnK to KnG?
Actually, I think Al’s on the level. He want’s the best for Leslie and Gunther. And I think he knows Gunther and Les may have a good effect on each other. Like Felix Unger and Oscar Madison did in “The Odd Couple”
From one domestic crisis with Brad and Toni to another domestic crisis in this laundry room………what happened to the rampaging hormones of youth theme of this strip? Who hijacked Luann? Get those libidos on life support or something. Break out the whet stone and put an edge back on the characters. Turn up the heat, Irma and Al don’t qualify for a hot to trot new couple. Bring back Rosa!!!
It works, kinda, for comedy. Really, how many 19 year old guys, living with their uncle, don’t know how to do laundry? I bet Al wasn’t doing all the laundry.
“Me? Oh, sure, I’m now living with the jerk who used to bully me at school and who is showing every indication that he’s going to bully me here and not give me any freedom in my own home. Yeah, I’m ecstatic.”
I’m curious as to how Les’ laundry got done when he lived with Uncle Al. Al doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to do those things for him, like a mom, where he could grow up with a total absence of knowledge about these fundamental chores.
What on earth?! I know it’s not what really happened, but between the towel and indicating he can’t make the washing machine work, Knox honestly reminded me of a comic book story where a towel-wearing hillbilly, seen only from waist up, was complaining “Drat these newfangled washing machines! Give me a good-old fashioned bucket any time!”, apparently because he didn’t understand what a washing machine is for and had tried to bathe in it.
Gunther, who came back from Peru specifically to keep his mother from marrying Mr. Gray, is really happy about the marriage now? I believe that about as much as I believe that trying to turn a laundry room and closet into a bedroom is a good idea. This “Odd Couple” sitcom is getting tedious, and this is just the first week. Let’s get back to the Ann Eiffel story instead. I bet she’s scammed another hundred or more victims out of tens of thousands of dollars since we saw her last, because no one ever bothered to report her to the police!
Let me be short and sweet before the comic disappears while I am typing. Les is not some kind of evil genius, nor is Gunther a totally helpless chump. Les is the way he is because of his non-mom, and Gunther is the way he is because of his uber mom. They will work out okay, and for the record Les is the far more needy person, than Gunther is helpless. Irma needs to be happy, as does Al Grey, and it’s fantastic that they are able to be happy, and do what they can to extend this to the young persons in their lives they care about the most, son and nephew respectively. Nobody is perfect, but the judgmentalism in this comment page is absolutely mind-boggling. For example having Gunther being so helpless, is damning him with sympathy, let the guy grow, and let Les do the same. Good grief!!!
Wedding in Vegas? Of course! I ’mussier[rised I had not expected this. This opens up a whole knew bagful of opportunities for Les and Gunther to get into mischief. Snared adventures will provide chances for some bonding and mutual support. It will not happen i a day or a week, but I think they will begin to rely on each other for support in some way.
I’ve read a number of comments about Al being controlling and Irma not having a share in planning the wedding and honeymoon. It is possible she likes having Al take charge and make decisions. In some cultures, the honeymoon plans are a secret surprise for the bride. Also, one of the major adjustments newlyweds have to work through is money management. this can be especially challenging for older brides and grooms. We don’t know that Irma has not been consulted.
I can see a variety of options for the stories to develop.
(1) Is Irma still of child bearing age? If so, how would Les and Gunther react to a new baby? Can you imagine them babysitting?
(2) About that spare bedroom: they could rent it to TJ who could take over the kitchen chores of planning, shopping, cooking, and clean up.
(3) they could take on some mutual project where they would have to rely on each other for some project. Or Gunther could introduce Les to Star Trek with interesting reactions. That might really make a change in Les.
(4) I’ve wondered about Les getting interested in life modeling for the art classes where he might develop a talent for drawing or art. He might even enroll in classes. His lack of a great bod should not b a deterrent to modeling. It might even inspire the two boys to turn that spare room into a home gym of some sort.
Personally I am looking forward to some interesting story lines here. It will all start with wild adventures i Vegas. No way are these two going to get on a plane or bus and return to Pitt without some wild and crazy adventure.
I’m trying to determine whether Gunther’s statement is related exclusively to Les’s incompetence or to the Vegas trip or both; I suspect both, where the biggest undesirable might be coming back early and having to live alone with Les who is clearly in need of a lot of supervision, and Al will not be there to help with that job. And Irma doesn’t say how long they will stay after the wedding.
Let’s see. This is is behind Mr Grey’s place. Either Mr Grey did the laundry (doubt whether he would still and do not imagine he was doing anyway) or Les should have asked for help before, Les did not do the laundry as he is clueless about laundry (and many other things) or Mr Grey have the laundry sent out which is the one I would bet on. The future is more domestic servitude for the future Mrs Grey?

Now in Al Gray’s big back yard,
There’s a house all made of card
Or so it seems to those all sight unseen.Of all them teenaged crew,
The most abused I knew
Was the fundimental bhisti, Gunther B.
Les said ‘tee! hee! hee!
‘You limpin’ lump o’ brick-dust, Gunther B!
‘Hi! Slippy hitherao‘
Water, wash it! Panee lao,‘
You squidgy-nosed old idol, Gunther B.’
The uniform ’e wore
Was so much plaid before,
An’ rather less than ’arf o’ that be’ind,
For a piece o’ twisty wire An’ the glasses it require
Was all the field-equipment ’e could find.
When the towel enraptured Les
An’ the clothes all in a mess,
Where the pong would make your bloomin’ eyebrows crawl,
He shouted ‘Do the load!’‘You lowly blank faced toad’,
Then Les wopped ’im ’cause ’e couldn’t dry them all.
It was ‘tee! hee! hee!
‘You will see,
where the mischief, parolee?’
‘You put some juldee in it‘
Or I’ll marrow you this minute‘
If you don’t fold up my sock draw’r, Gunther B!’
