was hair’s fault, his name can’t be Betty, he is bad hair, he seemingly left sofa after Bern and Gunther left………………. but now more seriously, neither Bern or Gunther are 100% into silent films, maybe they like it, but they not obsessed with it, one should never pretend to be more than what they really are

That’s the second time in one night that Bernice is speechless!

But all is not lost, Bernice. Even as Piro leaves for wherever he’s crashing tonight, he said to you ‘maybe next time’.

Let’s hope that Gunther is not similarly thinking about Bernice ‘maybe next time’…

“What’s WRONG with Ya,” Bern? Well, If You were ‘Real’ I’d say You were, “In Love.” But since You the Copyrighted Property of one Mr. Greg Evans, I’d say that You, are the Victim of a SLOWLY evolving “Plot Twist” that will Eventually have You and old Starhead here, Fall (God Help Him) in Love until ONE of You (Probably YOU) Does/Say something STUPID, causing a long awaited Break-Up, and have Mr. Starhead pull a “Zane” and Disappear from the Strip, FOREVER. (DEEP Breath)So Pleasant Dreams, Ms. Harper!

Oh yeah, wasn’t this whole “Silent Movie” Nonsense Dez’s Idea? Well, be SURE to tell the “Earth Mother” what You thought of Her “plan.” And be Acting “13” when You DO IT….,

Dude, it’s Southern California in JUNE. Do you really still need the scarf?

Also, has anyone else noticed that Piro always seems to leave the area as soon as Bernice arrives? 50% of his dialogue towards Bernice is some variation of the phrase “see you later.” And where is he always going anyway? It’s not like he has a room to get back to. The only time he hasn’t left immediately is when he literally had nowhere to go. Every other time, he runs off within 10 seconds of Bernice seeing him.It reminds me of the prank we would play at work during lunchtime: when a predesignated person arrives at the table, everyone else gets up and leaves right then, regardless of how much food they still have left.

All I’m saying is: for a possible love interest (as well as a guy without a place of his own) , Piro sure is in a hurry to get away from Bernice every time they run into each other.

Sorry if this is a repeat, but was he in the back at the side, hidden, or has the showing time on the sign changed since it was first posted? If so… Notice that the current time per campus clock on an earlier day’s panels woukd be well past time for an original show to be done.Brd, i can not even find WHERE to make that change, let alone how, but think my iBook has a somewhat different account so woukd need to do it from my iPad. Strangely, last night i kept dreaming that one of my husband’s images was my avatar, one of a candle that i used years ago as my screen saver. I had never thought about it before. If i figure out how to do it would it be okay with you if i use Steve’s candle if i can find where i have stored that?

I suspect that when the sign comes down the taped on “tonite” is going to have a changed time below it, one after the 8 pm showing would be finished. I think that is why they showed us the campus clock earlier.

Before we see her again, Bernice will have a lot to think about, after two men walked away from her. Either she can just let them go and try to forget what happened (good luck with that); or she can continue passively to hope Piro—and maybe Gunther— will come back(good luck with that, too); or she can have a serious talk with herself—or with a friend, precisely about that passivity, which is not working for her. (Gunther already has made a beginning about his own.)

The more i think about it, the more i think that Tiff changed the times on the signs after Gunther entered the Commons Room. If so, a huge question is whether Gunther KNEW that would happen. If that is so, then perspectives shift once more.

“Why am I acting 13?”-That’s the question that should be asked of most of the ex-Fogarty classmates, now that they’re no longer in high school. It’s time for these people to stop playing their silly he-loves-me-he-loves-me-not games and passing notes in study hall. Behave like adults, say what’s on your minds, and take advantage of all the new opportunities life is offering you in your current surroundings.

I sort of thought this would occur, or some variation of it. My only wonder is what happened to Hair? Apparently nobody came but Hair,, who did not care which movie, and Piro, who did care, about the movie I hasten to add. What lesson will Bernice learn from these events? Like I said earlier who will be the proximate cause for further progress between Gunther and Bernice, if there is to be any. I hope there will be. But will this arc fade out for now, or continue next week. That should be interesting.

Note that Piro is expressing an interest in the movie he just watched, not in Bernice. Now that the film is over, there’s no reason for him to stay, certainly not to char with Bern. His “maybe next time” means that “maybe next time, some other people will come to the screening”, not “maybe next time we can get together”. Piro seems totally uninterested in Bernice. Will she now realize that?

@SukieCrandallIf you are right (and the thought had occurred to me also) that the time on the poster was changed, seems there are three people who might have done it. One was Gunther himself, for obvious reasons, or as you said, Tiff, whose motives are really not crystal-clear as yet, or possibly Dez, wanting to insure that Bernice and Piro would be alone after any others had left, not realizing that Gunther would take Bernice for ice cream. This whole silent film thing was Dez’s idea in the first place so I can see her putting some finishing touches on it.

I see no signs of growth or maturity in Gunther. He thinks he should get whatever he wants and is angry and verbally abusive when he doesn’t. If Bernice was angry because he defended Tiffany but didn’t accept her defending Piro at least she kept it under control and didn’t start a shouting match.

Conflict shouldn’t come from having to learn the exact same lesson over and over and over and over again. And if a creator thinks that’s the only way to keep reader interest then they have very little respect for their readers.

Plenty of stories manage to have their characters develop in different ways instead of relying on the same thing repeatedly. The key is to make well-rounded characters instead of flat archetypes.

You should really demand more from your entertainment if you think aesop amnesia is a requirement in an ongoing story. And please don’t blame the medium of comics strips for this: Brad has managed to develop in different ways so we know Team Evans isn’t unwilling to change any of their characters.

Now I know that recycling aesops and even storylines is an old practice in long-running stories (how many times has Peter Parker quit being Spider-Man over the years?) but those recycled stories are spaced out fairly far (pro wrestling calls it “the seven year rule”). With Bernice, she learns this lesson every time she gets a storyarc. It’s practically the only storyarc she ever gets. That’s just laziness on the writers’ part, combined with an underdeveloped character (since they apparently can only tell one or two stories with her.)

And moreover, I would argue that this has the exact opposite effect on reader interest, as people will see the “Bernice learns to lighten up” story starting up and quickly stop caring, as they all know she’ll just be right back to the way she was before within a week’s time anyway. The same way readers have stopped caring when a comic book character dies. Nobody’s fooled any more.

Believe it or not, Bernice, Gunther and all the rest are acting like responsible college students – but they are acting their age.

However, that responsibility and respect that the Luann gang utilizes comes at the right time when friendships, relationships, intimacy, love and sexual awakening become mixed with very intimidating, confusing situations, along with some very strong emotions.

While a lot of college age students take advantage of dorm life – a stepping stone to independence – some “rush in”.

I need not explain what “rushing in” means. ;-)

I would have expected Tiffany to be the first one, but she, too, is growing as a person. I would have expected Tiffany to rush in with some frat-boy jerk or become one of the college football team star player’s conquests.

I’m enjoying how this story is going. The Luann gang is – very understandably – still sticking close to each other long after high school is over. While it’s nice to see new characters – Dez, Piro, Hair – one of the delights of growing up is meeting new people. Here’s hoping that more characters come along to meet and mingle with the Luann gang.

Why was he so late? He knew when the movie was supposed to start. He offered no apology or explanation, and she waited for a long time before she left with Gunther. Piro obviously thinks he can do whatever he wants whenever he wants. Did he think she was going to wait forever for him to start? Unless Piro reversed the picture, he probably missed a good part of “Nosferatu,” which I have seen. Nothing would have happened anyway, as Gunther and Hair were there. But maybe if he saw Bernice trying to cuddle up to Piro, Gunther would have finally gotten wise.

It is true that most young children require as much or more (as in that case) supervision than the domesticated animals when they are together. In that case we had two ferrets who regularly helped calm a couple of children whose young mother was terminally ill. The ferrets were totally gentle with them and soothed the children often.

Well it was the Army, so things are a little different there. For starters, firing us on the spot was out of the question. And also, any disciplinary action taken would against the wishes of the guy who got pranked, as he always thought it was funny too (once he realized what happened.) I know this because everyone including me had their turn as that guy.

Sometimes, a joke really is just a joke, and not worth ruining careers over. I knew soldiers were more thick-skinned than civilians when it came to good-natured pranking, but I had no idea it was this bad.
