Just family and close friends, the ideal wedding. No need for lots of folks that you have not seen in a long time. Now the strip can move forward to a sweet family living a normal life, sibling arguments, brothers in law getting into trouble, and sisters loving every minute of it.
They did it! And inside of only a few months from the proposal. How much longer must we wait for Toni and Brad (Luann strip) to tie the knot? It’s been years since the proposal!
Yay! found this strip on gocomics and started reading it from the beginning archive. You feel like you know these people and that’s what makes a GREAT comic strip!
I love this strip – I save it for the last one I read because it’s just the best. The characters are wonderful and I love each one. Thank you for awesome writing and story development!
@freewaydog: Jan says at the top of her latest (7/23) post on the comic’s website that, starting Monday 7/27, she’ll begin “inserting” some flashbacks to how Val and Phil met, which sounds like they’ll be amid new strips.
To Val and Phil Jackson – may your lives be filled with happiness, warmth, contentment and fulfilment. May your only troubles be little ones – like which way up to hold the grandchildren.
And also, to Jan Eliot – may you have a long and happy retirement. Thanks for giving us all so much pleasure down the years.
P.S. I hope all the most recent episodes will make it to paperback as well, and complete my collection . . .
No doubt as the last to comment (I was away) I am SO happy. I too, let out a big WHOOP when I read it today! I don’t think this is ‘the end’. Jan said a recap on their meeting is forthcoming. Great to re-acquaint us with that for those who might not have seen it. Glad Arnold made it too. To the ONE nay-sayer, Josh Lyons. chill out and stay happy….like the rest of us!!
I don’t think she’s retiring—she remarks that the strip is now 20 years old and also that she’ll mix some flashbacks in for the next few weeks—other than that her latest blog post really talks about how originally Phil was a minor character who refused to stay that way. :)
I HOPE THIS ISN"T THE END but if it is, THANK YOU JAN for this wonderful strip, and REPEATS from the get go will be more than welcome to your fans here!
Dunno why anybody would think this would mean strip retirement. Nothing on Ms. Eliot’s website suggests other than a few flashbacks on “how they met.” (I’m up for it. I just spent a couple of weeks rereading the strip from the beginning—-the books, and a collection of printout-cutout notebooks—-but one can gain some perspective.)(The first couple of strips he was “Bill” Jackson.)

@trekman58: I’d say most of the lengthy threads contain debates, or at least discussions. There’s nothing to debate here: we’re all delighted!
Anyone know if the officiant is supposed to “be” anyone in particular? It’s not Jan herself.
