Unfortunately bigotry, fear, and hatred have no real ethnic or racial boundaries. Our prejudices are no more or less than a reflection of our perception of our own self-worth and natural inclination to blame our own shortcomings on outside influences. Makes us feel better about ourselves. Psychobabble? Sure. True? Just as sure. I can give that a big “Mea culpa”. It’s not easy to overcome what you were “taught” when you were young, and even harder to not pass it on down the line; but when you look at a bunch of today’s kids in K and pre-K interacting, it gives a bit of hope.

@FlyGuyP38: You probably would get away with it with a different race if that race had forcibly segregated other races, by law, and punished those who dared cross those racial boundaries. Given that this comic’s audience is primarily the US where whites did legally oppress others (and many whites still long for those days), it makes sense.

That’s just crazy talk. People only join the KKK to become part of the power structure, not because they are hate-filled racists. Our good friend, the dearly departed Senator Robert Carlyle Byrd is a perfect example of a caring and compassionate human without pretensions of racist superiority based on minor genetic differences, who only wanted to change the world and make it a better place and joined in with the power structure only to work change upon it from within by rising to the level of Exalted Cyclops to recruit new, young minds that could transcend the hatred and ride in the night with hearts filled with hope for the future and the belief that all men are created equal, terrorizing innocent people in the name of hope and change, rather than an archaic sense of superiority and virulent hatred. Well, according to Ted Kennedy, anyway, may he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved campaign staffer, Mary Jo.If you are still arguing about this stupid stuff, you are probably part of the problem. But hey, feel free to dive right in. You really need a sense of humor to be a human being.

This comic will probably sting the 12 people who are members of the KKK. If only the members of Trinity United Church of Christ realized how this comic relates to them. And, of course, a courageous comic artist would have done it with Mohammed’s suicide bombers, defying the certain fatwa that would follow.

My grandparents on my Dads side were Masonic & sadly very bigoted. They thankfully never shared their racist beliefs with me or my Brother. When my Dad met my Mother the 1st thing they wanted to know is if she’s white or Catholic ? She was white & not Catholic which was good enough for them. My Brother & I don’t judge on race, religion or sexual preferences. I’m not God & I don’t want the job.

@msowards .. If you are looking for multiracial irony, perhaps Wiley could have had it showing an African tribal leader from, say the late 1700’s, walking towards the abyss; and the sign saying “People who sell their fellow tribesmen into slavery only” …

We have no monopoly on racial strife, for sure. I spent seven months on a mission in Kosovo, which is a nation created as literally middle ground between the Albanians and the Serbians who have been fighting each other for centuries before the US was founded. No other group has enslaved another? They have done much worse, i.e. attempted genocide. I recall some recent history involving the Hutus and the Tsutsies (sp?).

If you want to enlighten yourself as to what co-located peoples all over the world think of each other in the worst ways, see http://www.rsdb.org/

You’ve got to be taughtTo hate and fear,You’ve got to be taughtFrom year to year,It’s got to be drummedIn your dear little earYou’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to be afraidOf people whose eyes are oddly made,And people whose skin is a diff’rent shade,You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late,Before you are six or seven or eight,To hate all the people your relatives hate,You’ve got to be carefully taught!you’ve got to be taught"

Actually, I’ve learned that when one objects to playing a Race Card, they are also playing a race card. Cards are cards, just different suits and denominations. Kinda like people.Seems that Political Correctness is still Politically Incorrect.

sturmmi, to me there is a war on all the other holidays…..If I am inclusive and say Happy Holidays, that’s a war on Christmas? And conservatives are campaigning on policies that will for young women to have devices inserted into their uterus and keeping birth control from poor young girls….Happy Holidays! I’m looking forward to the upcoming Spring Fertility Festival because I really love jelly beans………..The neat thing is that my memory is getting so bad I can hide my own Easter eggs….

Isn’t it amazing how quickly and with what needle-sharp accuracy you are able to discern so much of one’s beliefs and character from one sentence? It is nearly as if there were a big rubber stamp just ready to come down on any person with whom you did not find yourself in total agreement. I wonder if there is a word for that. Probably not. I’m sure it is something brand new in the world, and unique to yourself.

I can’t, for the life of me, think of a single word I might add to make that more perfect.

@ sturmm14: “After all, if they killed all the non whites, who would do the jobs the white people don’t want to do?”

I think economics has a lot to do with bigotry.

Everybody needs somebody to look down on & feel superior to,and to do the s***** jobs that they wouldn’t touch with a bargepole.

Parenthetically, I’ve seen documentaries in which anthropologists and ethnologists say that homo sapiens originated in southern’Africa, and migrated all over the earth. The scientists do not saywhether we were all black at the time. Wouldn’t THAT be a kickin the head!!!
