Yes, context is key. On The Daily Show, they can say “Dick” in reference to Cheney, but the same word is bleeped when used as a phallic reference.

At least the GoComics’ nannybot is less aggressive than it used to be. I can remember typing “Dick Van Dyke” and it came out “**** Van ****”…

I remember a LONG time ago about 15 yrs or more, seeing a smart donkey sitting in a chair reading and a stupid rabbit. The caption said something about Smart ass / Dumb bunny. My dad saved it, he identified with the bunny.
