Reminds me of a character who appeared in the Li’l Abner comics: "Smilin’ Zack: A cadaverous, outwardly peaceable mountaineer with a menacing grin and shotgun, who prefers things “quiet” to the point of silence."
Reminds me of a joke about a guy who fell into an empty grave (he was drunk at the time). After much effort, he gave up trying to get out. Another fellow who had stayed at the pub too long fell in, too. Not seeing the first, he began to try climbing out. At which point the first came up behind him, and helpfully said “You’ll never get out of here” — at which point the second jumped out!
Ah, thanks for reminding me of the modern musical number “A Fifth of Beethoven.” If you haven’t heard it, look it up, if you want to hear Beethoven reimagined as disco.
A quick search turned up a couple dictionaries supporting “oaring” being a word. Then again, I once was dismayed to find that a number of grammarians support the use of “one of the only.”
