It is built into the Constitution -- to remove those who are abusing it & install a government that will follow its principles.

That’s why Americans have the Constitutional Right to bear arms — to protect democracy from corrupt governments. Anyone know where we might find one…??.Most government systems are good for about 100 years before corruption becomes systemic. The current U.S. system is way past its Best Before date! (When you consider how long ago Mr. Smith Goes To Washington was made, and how much worse things have gotten since then…)

Serious comment: The reason we have a Constitution is to avoid mindless mobs with pitchforks and torches, and I hope that’s the point SP is trying to make here.

    Sorry bdaverin,

The ballot box is denied to many American citizens. The Republicans know the ballot box is a problem, and they are adding restrictions designed to disenfranchise the Democratic Party’s key demographics. They are also inspired by Josef Stalin – who said “Those who vote do not have the power, those that count the votes have the power”. An example is the Wisconsin Supreme Court election – the last district to report gave the Republican just a little more than the precise majority to avoid a recount. Starve the beast, and the beast will respond.

I’ve always found it interesting that Thomas Jefferson himself was wary of the power of the dead over the living in the form of an unchanging Constitution. To ensure that each generation have a say in the framework of the government, he proposed that the Constitution, and each one following it, expire after 19 or 20 years. OTOH, James Madison, Jefferson’s contemporary, found comfort in knowing that the populace would not be thrust into political turmoil every 20 years, and noted that the way the Constitution is now structured, it implies an acceptance of the status quo unless explicitly changed. I think Jefferson would be amazed that we still use the Constitution, with only a few amendments.

S M, oh, jeeze, more scare tactics warning us that we are devolving into simpler beings. Republican mantra: everybody else is either stupid, wrong or evil. (They always choose the last one!) Canadians have all the freedoms we do, Shut up! They have health insurance even if you can’t afford it. That makes them better people, when judged from a Christian perspective…
